Welcome to the Fall 2016 semester!
I’m excited to meet the next batch of artists and watch as you invest time and energy into cultivating your art practice, building the bones of what will become your Senior Thesis Exhibitions come Spring Semester. Looking forward to getting to know each of you...
A new semester also means a new exhibition in the Earl and Virginia Green Art Gallery on campus.
Text(iles): The Text is a Fabric is on view from August 22nd to September 16th.
The exhibition features works by artists:
Diedrick Brackens, Jennifer Reifsneider, Rafael Rozendaal, Phillip Stearns, and Tali Weinberg
from the exhibition announcement:
TEXT(ILES): THE TEXT IS A FABRIC features five artists whose work exposes the conceptual link between text and textile- both etymologically derived from the same latin root, texere. The artists represent diverse approaches to making and explore various themes of translation, data visualization, measurement, coding, interconnectedness, and complex cultural histories. Despite these contrasts all point back to external textual references that directly inform the work. The source has been translated as textile, and the network of a thread becomes a text.
Join me at the opening reception (after class) on Tuesday, August 30th from 6:30 to 8:30pm.
