#it's not like this site isn't a pretty toxic place to be anyway #as I recently realized even some things that look like advice and whose posters might be genuinely convinced they're being helpful #like 'you ARE allowed to -insert thing here-'#sounds nice but it can lull one into this feeling #that they have to ask #that they have to have someone -even if just a stranger from the internet who wasn't talking to them specifically- giving them permission #to do something that is really an everyday thing like.#a lot of those advice posts seem to be written with the abused and disabled people in mind but #while that's a good thing it is bad that audience is not selected #like you write posts that are meant for a specific audience - but on a platform where they are seen by the GENERAL audience #often without clarifying exactly what audience they're for #so people are inclined to assume it's for them #and surely this leads to developing pathologies...#greencities #replies #tumblr #pathologies like as described above. thinking they HAVE to have someone's permission to do some small thing #like that kinda advice is good and helpful if someone's been like abused and constantly told they can't do a thing #then it's empowering i guess #but if not? if they were not previously dependent on permissions from other people and start thinking of it more now?#and that's just one example
