Marmalade the Kitten Who Lost His Mittens
Hello everyone! It’s me! Froggle! As you may know, if you liked my page on Facebook, I took a trip to the snowy mountains this winter. I am a beach bum frog, so the snow was a very new scene. The low at night was close to 14 degrees, and the snowfall made me feel like I was inside a snowglobe! As I was sitting inside, sipping hot cocoa, and staying warm, I was inspired to write this story. This is my first post on my new tumblr! Please stay tuned for more!
Marmalade was a good little kitten, but he was a bit scattered. He tried very hard to hold onto things, but he always lost things that mattered!
One fine winter day, he was up by dawn, to make little snow angels on the lawn.
He wore his favorite mittens that were knitted with fluffy yarn. His grandmother made them. They took all night to darn!!
He saw how lovely and sparkly the snow was, and he knew. He had to build a snowman! One that stood tall and glistened too!
He rolled the first snowball big and round. He packed and prodded the snow on the ground.
Just as he finished the very last piece, the head on top of the very nice beast, he had one more touch to add to the top, a nice little hat from a very nice shop.
He ran off swiftly with a skip in his step to find a nice hat for his new snowy pet.
On the way to the shop, he found a berry bush that looked so yummy! He slipped off his mittens to pluck the goodies to fill his tummy.
When he’d had his fill, he saw a nice tree. He was tired, so he napped til a quarter past three.
When he awoke from his lovely doze, he sought his mittens and socks to warm his fingers and toes.
He looked near the bush where the berries shined red, but he couldn’t find his mittens! Oh! So many tears he shed!
“My grandmother worked so hard,” thought he, “Making those mittens for forgetful old me.”
The poor little kitten had lost his mitten, so he cried and he cried, his fluffy cheeks tear-stricken.
The fairy of the forest heard his cries of despair, and came to his side in a cloud of wintry air.
“Little kitten, whatever is wrong?” she asked, “Why have you been crying for so long?” “I lost my mittens that my grandmother made, she worked so hard, and she’d be so dismayed.”
“Don’t fret my dear little kitten, your grandmother won’t mourn a little lost mitten. But for your paws that are cold and bare, here are little cuffs of tufts of hair.”
And with that, the fairy summoned the breeze, and it plucked the little white dandelions with ease.
The little tufts of silky dandelion hairs drifted soft and light, and draped the kitten’s paws in sheets of white.
And that’s how little kittens got the little white tufts of hair, that keep their paws warm from the cold winter air!
Marmalade never lost these new mittens again, and thanks to the fairy, his warm paws could make more snowmen!
