The Evolution of a Giraffe Project, Days 10-12. Colored pencil, Blow pen, Water Color. I've been working on this progression for a while. It's not perfect, but I like the idea, and I think I will come back to it at some point. The ideal situation would have been to duplicate Day 10 for the "out of focus" regions around the glasses in Day 11, but I ended up doing the opposite and doing a blurred version of Day 12 for it. I figured, while you're putting glasses on, you have a somewhat clearer peripheral vision...maybe not. I have glasses, I should know. Until next time! Check back on Wednesday for my next giraffe!

Update on The Evolution of a Giraffe Project

My giraffes are taking longer than before...I'm hoping this is a good thing and will yield higher quality pieces. My giraffes will be released every three days instead of every day starting from today. Please stay tuned! Thanks for your patience and support :)

The Evolution of a Giraffe Project, Day 10. Air brush. Remember those good old days with the Blowpens? The air brush was reminiscent of that experience. I call this piece "Myopia." Check back tomorrow as I put the "Glasses on the Giraffe" and bring it into focus!

The Evolution of a Giraffe Project, Day 9. Chalk. I've been wanting to do a piece that incorporated geometric patterns for a while now, and I guess today was the day! I had fun playing with the concentric triangles. I think I might return to this motif in greater detail in the future. Until the next time!

You may see some insects here and there but there’s only one frog in this illustration. The Paedophryne amauensis is recognized as the smallest frog and probably the smallest vertebrate in the world. Found in Papua New Guinea, it is so difficult to detect since it spends most of its time camouflaged in the forest floor. It does not go through the tadpole stage in its lifetime and are born as “hoppers”. These froggies can jump 30 times its length! Have you found it?

The Evolution of a Giraffe Project, Day 8. Pencil. 

This was my first attempt at doing anything realistic. It is a copy of the photo I re-tumbled a few days ago. I’m not quite brave enough to picstitch the two images next to each other, so you will just have to scroll down to see the original image. I’m going to work a bit more on the “real" giraffe, so these may take longer to turn around. You may not see a new giraffe each day, but I will still post my progress every day.

The Evolution of a Giraffe Project, Day 7. Felt pen, Watercolor. 

I’m playing a little bit more with watercolor on my tablet. I love how it blends. I’ve always loved watercolor painting, but it’s a risk on paper. On the tablet, there is a lot more room for experimentation. This was my first piece using felt pen. It is quite fun!

For those of you who don’t know me, green is my favorite color (read Froggle’s stories/posts and you will know), and 7 is my favorite number. I thought it would only be fitting to mark this special occasion by combining the two.

I decided to play with watercolors today. I haven’t ventured very far into the realm of digital paint, so this was a bit scary. Nonetheless, I present to you: the ghost giraffe!

I call this one, “Simple Elegance." If you know me, you know that I have a fascination with eyelashes. Giraffes have particularly long and luscious lashes, so it was inevitable that a piece like this was bound to happen. I kept the rest of the head to simple lines in order to highlight the eyelashes. I’m probably most comfortable with pen, so I come back to it often.

This is an alien giraffe. There is not much more to say besides it is what aliens look like in my imagination. It was also my first experience with oil paints. I am still learning how to use paint…

These posts are a bit delayed, but here is Day 3. Imagine a very zoomed in section of a giraffe that was then reversed in colors, and this is what you get. I decided to play around with the pattern to get a better feel for it.

I have just bought a Wacom Bamboo Splash tablet, and I am still learning how to use it. I intend to draw a different giraffe everyday, using different media and styles, and hopefully improving my craft along the way.
