Gr.I Winner Greenpointcrusader Retired
Greenpointcrusader, a Gr.I winner and sibling to three rising stallions, has been retired from racing and will begin stallion duties at Ocala Stud in Ocala, Florida. “There’s a lot to like about this horse, and we believe breeders will really like him when they see him.“ said Ocala Stud’s Michael O’Farrell. His 2018 fee has been set at $5,000.
Greenpointcrusader won the 2015 Gr.I Champagne as a juvenile by 4 ½ legnths, defeating notable runners Ralis (Gr.I winner), Sunny Ridge, Magna Light and Tale of S'avall. As a sophomore, he finished second in the Gr.II Holy Bull Stakes to Mohaymen. He raced from age two to four, winning an allowance in 2017. Greenpointcrusader is a full brother to Gr.III winner and second-crop sire Algorithms, and a half-brother to stallions Justin Phillip and Keyed Entry, and Gr.III winner Successful Mission.
The son of Bernardini (out of Ava Knowsthecode, by Cryptoclearance) retires with a record of 9: 3-2-0 with earnings of $473,300.

Greenpointcrusader Makes Strong Impression In First Start For Pletcher Grade 1 winner Greenpointcrusader, who was last seen finishing seventh in the 2016 Louisiana Derby, returned to the races Friday and won the featured 10th race at Gulfstream Park, an allowance optional claimer at one mile.
Louisiana Derby
1. Mo Tom has exactly zero racing luck which means the Derby isn't for him. 2. Dazzling Gem ran a nice race but wasn't quite on par with the winner but could hit the board in the Derby if these points get him in and the race plays out right. 3. Tom's Ready is guaranteed to run second in the Derby. 4. Greenpointcrusader will never win another race. 5. Gun Runner is serious. Maybe not at the level of Nyquist or Mohaymen, but still VERY good. Fairgrounds Oaks bonus: Land Over Sea proved that Songbird is beating up on some very good horses decisively.
I'm really not a big fan of Greenpointcrusader and I can't put my finger on why. And it boggles my mind why Steve Haskin has him as his #1 on his Derby Dozen above Mohaymen and Nyquist. Does anyone have any insight on why he's so highly touted? His Champagne was decent considering he stumbled the break and went 6 wide on the final turn, but he also had a fairly quick pace on a sloppy track to run into... Idk man. He's just not my favorite.
