Portland Astral Projectors GREENSEEKER Roll Out First Single Ahead of ‘The Wish’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
Here's a band that really shines. Something about that organ, man. A great generation of experimenters started jamming with the Hammond (once a common household instrument) in their sessions, the organ was forever married to rock 'n' roll. While never my favorite instrument (more of a piano guy myself), I've grown to really appreciate and at times even love this strange amalgamation of wind and keys -- especially within the context of heavy music.
Bands like The Doors, Deep Purple, and The Who have done remarkable things with the organ sound, but I'm always pleasantly surprised when contemporary acts of various stripes incorporate it successfully into their songs. I'm thinking of Clutch, Mount Salem, Old Blood, Messa, and the four-piece that stands before us today, Oregon's GREENSEEKER.
The organ is less of an accent and more of a major player in these seven compositions stretched 'cross the band's great big full-length debut, 'The Wish' (2022). Tracks are all pretty damned groovy, but the dramatic effect of those pipes takes us into realms of psychedelic doom and surreal horror, recalling Blood Ceremony, Purson, and Avatarium.
We've played Greenseeker on The Doomed & Stoned Show in episodes past, but due to pandemic restrictions, cancellations, and delays I've yet to see the band perform live. However, they're most definitely one of the Portland acts I want to film in concert this year if I get half a chance.
Doomed & Stoned is about to give you an exclusive first listen to the band's picturesque new single, "The Wheel And The Stone," which lands near the record's beginning. The song draws upon the storytelling proclivities of vocalist Lauren Hatch (who's been behind all this vibrant keyboard play), amply supported by Selina Cleary's deep bass tones, robust drumming from Shea Gegan, and Max Siegfried with some seriously seering guitar soloing.
Greenseeker's The Wish comes out digitally and on vinyl May 27th via StoneFly Records. For fans of The Devil's Blood, Coven, and Rainbow.

SOME BUZZ
Greenseeker worships at the altar of proto-metal and heavy psych, steeped in classic riffs and fantastic lyrics. Formed in 2019, Greenseeker hit the ground running and the band recorded its first demo, plainly titled 'Greenseeker,' in the Spring of 2020. The work continued from there, with Greenseeker recording debut album 'The Wish' for release later this year.
Many bands deal in retro sounds, but few are able to combine classic proto-metal and modern heavy psych in the way that Greenseeker does. Their demo caught the ear of the doom underground, nabbing the band a record deal with StoneFly Records. They’ve also earned a reputation as a must-see, sharing the stage with some of the best talent across the Pacific Northwest, including Ealdor Bealu, A//tar, Ash Eater, and Egotones. ‘The Wish’ is due out on vinyl later this summer, with Greenseeker continuing to push forward in the meantime.
The quartet plan to record a new EP in the spring in between regional shows, where Greenseeker has earned a reputation for improvisation-laden performances. Greenseeker are the next force in heavy psych, Portland’s latest vital export. Get in the van and take the ride with them!
