Podcasts of the Week (3/12/2013)
I always see these lists that sites tend to put that are usually titled "The top 10 best (insert topic) podcasts!". Now I love these lists but I have one peeve with them, they are always outdated. So I want to 'try' to do this weekly post of new podcasts that I find worth listening to.
Since this is the weekly post I figured I would just go over what my podcast look like right now and what I like to listen to while working:
WNYC's Radio Lab - Science / Technology
Hosted from New York this weekly podcast is like candy for your brain. It's a science show not meant for the higher educated but for everyone, for the people.
ShopTalk - Front End Web Development
Hosted by CSS-Trick's Chris Coyier and Dave Rupert, this weekly podcast focuses on front web development and the in's and out's of the web development industry. Strongly recommend for any web developer. Live shows are hosted usually once a month on their website where the audience can tune in and participate with questions for the hosts and guests. One last note on this podcast, the guests they have on this podcast are spectacular some of the best in the industry and it is always insightful.
Caustic Soda - Humor / Paranormal / Science / Myths / History
Ok....I'm not really sure how to describe this podcast. But if I had to use one word to describe it would be awesome. Hosted by Toren Atkinson, Kevin Leeso, and Joe Fulgha these guys take you on a wild ride through the historic, disastrous, paranormal, and scientific world. They take myths and put them into a real world context through historic accounts, folklore, and scientific studies and try to put together the pieces on how these myths came to be.
The Smartest Man in the World - Humor / Society
Greg Props is the smartest man in the world. And he will prove this through his weekly hour and a half shows. I personally love Gregs style of comedy where he reads a newspaper on stage and pulls out a hour and half routine out of his hat from the stories he reads in the local paper. It's a hilarious podcast, and gives great insight on how screwed society really is.
The Thrilling Adventure Hour - Humor
Recorded live at the Largo Theater in the Los Angeles, CA, this podcast takes those old 1950's radio plays and re-imagines them with a modern twist. It consist of a wonderful cast, and most episodes revolve around three main stories that the show follows through countless scenarios.
PageBreak Podcast - Front End Web Development / Books
Hosted by Liz Andrade and Niki Brown, these web designs take on the literature world. Through monthly podcasts where the two will read a entire book and put it into context for the web development and general public. But to keep listeners appetites at bay they release weekly snippets where the two will dissect blog posts and articles that can help the everyday man in there lives.
Sex Nerd Sandra - Humor / Sex Ed
Part of the Nerdist podcast empire Sex Nerd Sandra is a weekly podcast hosted by sex nerd and educator Sandra Daugherty and comedian Dave Ross. This podcast takes humor and sexuality and puts together in all the right ways. From hilarious bad sex stories to gaining a new insight on world of sexuality this is a podcast that I believe everyone should listen to.
