Most of you may not know, but right now iam writing a Harry Potter fanfiction called "The Return of Grindelwald" .
Lately, i am having a writer's block. I have a few ideas, but i don't know which one to pick, because both sound good. I've already planned them and how to put them in the fic. That's why i need another person's opinion.
I am not forcing anyone to read it,just asking a question about Gellert's childhood and wand, which will be included in the fanfic after a few chapters.
First version: Gellert has a family, but is separated from them because his relatives have political enemies and he is put in an orphanage for his safety, where he is rescued from when he is around 9-10. His parents are dead, but he has an uncle from his mother's side.
Second version: His father dies a little before or after his birth and his mother raises him till 6-7yo. Both are killed and he lives alone in a poor and dangerous neighborhood. He doesn't know that he has an alive relative (Bathilda) till the start or the end of his 6th year in Durmstrang. The one who picks him up for Durmstrang and accompanies him is one of the teachers/or the headmistress (just like Tom Riddle with Albus)
In my own opinion, i prefer the first version, because it's the first one that i thought of. But i also like the second,soo... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (Tbh,i wouldn't mind if someone recommends an idea about abusive parents, BUT with a bit more plot and the relationship between the 3 of them.)
This took me a lot of research, which meant a lot of options to pick from. Here are some screenshots
Now, let's look at some of Gellert's traits:
- unknown whether he was "a bit of a loner" during his child and teenage years, but we can see that he HATES/DESPISES to be all alone - Mads and Johnny said, that this is what he doesn't want & fears the most (probably aside from losing Albus or his revolution)
- good instincts (too bad he uses them for his bad deeds😐😬)
- definitely revolutionary at heart
- he sought greater purpose ('For the Greater Good', although these were Albus' words)
- definitely has a "vision beyond the ordinary" (being both a Seer and a revolutionary)
- quite a paradoxical, intriguing and a controversial person
- is adaptive, has very fast reactions and is the greatest duelist of 20th century (Albus is a tad better,no doubt, which makes Gell the 2nd)
- has several inner conflicts and turmoils
- quick-witted [they also describe him as mysterious and has a 'hot temper' (- whatever that means?)]
- has trademark spells ('Protego Diabolica')
- can cast nonverbal spells and is good with combative magic
- dies at the age of 115yo (definitely not young lol)
- martial magic and arts - we saw the Durmstrang students in the movies and the HPWiki tells enough.
- "The Silver Spears" . His first name - Gellert - is Hungarian and means 'Brave with a spear'. (They were also duelists, infamous and secretive just like him)
- can't be honest with everyone or/doesn't trust, because the only person, who truly saw his as an equal and a worthy opponent & friend was Albus. Also because of his high position in the political world - he has hundreds of enemies and traitors&backstabbers like Krall.
- definitely holds to his beliefs, despite the pressure from the ministries and being a wanted criminal, while thinking that what he is doing is for the better (sure, but not with these actions!!! Change your tactics, ffs!!!)
- "a single, pure passion, which some might call 'obsession' - more kindly - vision". ==> The Deathly Hallows,Albus and 'The Greater Good'. (That makes three passions, but still)
- can heal (for example Credence,the Quilin,etc).
- knows several curses and is exceptionally good at Dark Magic.
- not scared of death - the exact opposite: he is willing to accept it like an 'old friend' as we know his last words and how he laughed at Voldemort's face.
Wanted to be the Master of Death,so he can achieve his goal, not because he is scared of it.
- he is skilled in both Legilimency and Oclumency
So,now that we know his skills and parts of his personality, which one do you think is the most suitable wand for him? (Hawthorne is quite interesting, but so are the others!) BUT ALSO DON'T FORGET THAT GELLERT'S FIRST WAND WASN'T STRAIGHT BUT A LITTLE ROUGH-LOOKING! (Crooked!)
All of these have some of his personality,so picking the best one is hard... A little help would be nice!!!
As for the Wand Core iam torn between Dragon heartstring and Thunderbird tail. Perhaps the second because there are too many owners of the DrgHrtstr? 🤔🤨🤨🤔
Wand : whichever you think suits Gellert the most (reasons)
