I love academia so much i love being in academia it’s my dream

I say while im not too busy (i should be but im not)

My thing that made me love academia rn is that i wrote an academic article (as a student who only graduates with a BA in june) and it’s gonna be published and now they need my academic bio. Do i have one? No, but i can write it

However, i have a small issue. I am transgender, nonbinary and all those fun stuff. And because of that, I have a new name. Not officially, because that’s 1) expensive 2) virtually impossible 3) stupid fucking bureaucracy. But yeah, I have two names, my official name (or a deadname, but I call it my official name) and my new name, my actual name.

I changed my name (well, unofficially. I only started going by my new name) very recently. Like, maybe two months ago? At most

And i don’t know how to deal with this, like do I include my official name? My new name? Both?

I could ask someone from my school (I am writing an email already) but that also requires me to specifically out myself and state my new name. Which is difficult because if there is a definition of a people pleaser, it better have my name and picture. The professor is cool - she is one of the people who actually noticed my pins and never questioned that

Does anyone on here have any cool ideas as to what to do about this besides writing an email to my professor?

Enough dark academia. Give me gremlin academia. The nest of blankets and research papers scattered across the floor with a wall covered in sticky notes connected by string and tape that look like a conspiracy theory. Ancient hoodie and track pants and hair in a week-old braid. The sunken dark-ringed eyes that plant fear in you, not because of what they have seen, but because after four days of not closing and seventeen cups of coffee they have a spark that says they have figured out how to blow the world open. Frantic scratching of a dozen old pens across a crumpled page, desperately searching for one that still works, because if you don’t write this down now then it will be gone forever. And because it has been written down now, It is mine and I will have it.

I’m bitter about academia aesthetics because they all seem cool but I’m a) a fucking dumbass and b) a fucking mess.

Like I could be all dark academia or whatever but I slam espresso and energy drinks at 3am and read philosophy papers with my tiddies out and that’s not exactly the brand™️. My note books are a mess and sometimes I don’t finish sentences because I had a new thought halfway through. I have sticky notes and loose paper with random thoughts everywhere, my books are full of notes in the margins and shit. My whole room is a mess of random idea and shit.

There’s all of that and then like if you ask me a question my brain just buffers for like a minute before I even have an answer.

My point is I may enjoy learning but I’m too much of a fucking gremlin to vibe with all the fancy aesthetics that people are into.

I’m getting to take a class on American Folklore for my Writing Intensive credit and my professor is deep in cryptids.

She’s also done Tumblr based research for real academic studies on folklore involving shitposts. Legit an icon and what I dream of.

is it 2:17 am, did i just take my melatonin, and also mostly finish my BA thesis? perhaps

did my mind immediately wander off to the other research project? perhaps

did i check my emails to see whether someone unnamed sent me an email “hey btw the article you sent us was just published” so that i can cite myself in my other project? PERHAPS

i love academia and it will also probably be the death of me
