Thinking about waking up next to Illuga in a modern au world because he deserves to be happy :3 He’s always getting up earlier than you (even if you set an alarm for like 3 am he’s still awake first?? how???) to cook you a delicious and nutritious breakfast because “You can’t get through the day without enough energy for your brain. Don’t worry about me and just go wash up, okay?”
While you’re rushing to get dressed, Illuga is somehow already dressed for work with two freshly made bento boxes on the kitchen counter. He always waits for you, no matter how late it may make him (although he will hurry you if he has to). Once both of you are ready, it’s off to take the train!!
If there are no seats, Illuga lets you lean against him and he definitely keeps an arm around you so people don’t accidentally jostle you in the crowded train. An empty seat popped up? He’s saving it for you and standing in front of you while you rest!
Lunch plans differ occasionally, but most lunch breaks are spent eating together as Illuga listens to you rant about your day and occasionally interjects with his own anecdotes. On especially hot days, Illuga always buys a small tub of your favourite ice cream for dessert.
Going home after work is essentially the same (crowded train, etc.) but actually being at home after work is the best!! If you prefer to decompress after work, he’ll shower first while you are tasked with making dinner. Of course, Illuga is perfectly fine with switching this arrangement up if you want :D
After dinner, it’s bedtime!! Illuga always makes sure to sleep at a respectable hour and he’d be damned if he didn’t make sure you did too. “Sufficient rest leads to a healthier body”, he would say as he shooed you off to bed.
Yo heres the sagau illuga x reader thing i was talking about :3 Illuga is probably mischaracterised here but we ball because i need to get this out of my head

When Illuga first heard of an “All-Seeing” and “Divine” creator that ruled over and created the very world he lived in, he was skeptical. It sounded like a fairytale or maybe something a drunkard tottering out of The Flagship would mutter before spilling their guts out on the ground. Of course, that was until he met you.
Illuga’s boots crunched against the sand of Starsand Shoal as he finished up his late-night patrol. After this, he would need to return to the Piramida to finish up the mountain of paperwork that most definitely had piled up by now. Maybe he could take a moment to rest his eyes on the boat ride back to….What is that?
The warm glow of Illuga’s lantern slowly illuminates a trail of golden blood leading all the way into that large cave in the cliffside. What the…. He’s never seen golden blood before, not even from an Abyssal creature. He should investigate immediately.
~~~
One moment you were farming artifacts for Illuga and the next, you were lying face down in the sand with the groans of the Wild Hunt near you. Before you could even orientate yourself, a serrated blade was slashing into your arm and spreading a blinding pain through your whole body. A strangled gasp left your mouth as you froze up, adrenaline pumping through your veins as time seemed to slow down. You saw the blade slowly coming down on you again and you felt yourself roll out of the way, get up and run into the nearby cave. (You remember that cave, wasn’t it the one the Traveller’s spaceship crashed into? Maybe listening to the Nod-Krai archon quest had its perks.)
The sounds of battle float in from outside the cave as the sounds of the monsters conjured by the Wild Hunt being slain echo against the cave walls. You push down a frightened noise as you clamp your hands over your eyes and pray that whatever is killing those monsters doesn’t come for you next.
~~~
After dispatching of the Wild Hunt blocking the entrance to the cave, Illuga enters cautiously. His polearm at the ready and lantern in hand, he checks every corner of the cave while following the golden trail until he finds someone passed out, one arm oozing golden ichor into the water surrounding the small stone platform. The sight stuns Illuga for two reasons. The first reason is pretty obvious, no normal human would ever have golden blood. The second one is a bit interesting. You see, every single story Illuga has ever heard about the Divine Creator mentions them having “blood of gold that could heal Teyvat”. It sounded a bit stupid when he first heard it but now he’s not so sure what to believe.
Illuga shakes his head to clear his head. No, he shouldn’t be thinking about that right now. His first priority should be treating that wound and then maybe he can transport them to a safer place. Whether they really are the Divine Creator or not doesn’t matter, he should help them all the same.
Pulling out a roll of bandages from the small med-kit he always keeps on his person, Illuga takes the stranger’s arm gently and starts wrapping it up. Well this definitely wasn’t how he expected his patrol going. Oh man, the paperwork for this one is going to be insane….

A ray of sun creeps through the window, landing perfectly on your closed eyes. Despite your best efforts to return to sleep, it proves to be much harder than you thought it would be. Your eyes remained closed as one hand reaches out to where your phone normally is to shut off the alarm that for some reason isn't ringing? No matter, you should get up for school right now and- Your hand touches something warm which then MOVES?? Your eyes fly open as you sit up in bed and swivel your head over to see what the hell is in your room. You take a few moments to adjust to the morning light before realising that the warm thing you touched seems to be an arm that belongs to someone. A someone that is dressed up as Illuga?? Why is there a cosplayer here...?
Ah. Your memories from the previous night rushing back alert you to the fact that this isn't your world. Judging from you being in Starsand Shoal previously, this must be Teyvat. Shoot, if this is Teyvat then this can't be an Illuga cosplayer.... This must be-!
~~~
"Are you feeling better? I found you unconscious in Starsand Shoal last night. Would you mind telling me what happened?"
Illuga tactfully avoids mentioning the stranger's bandaged arm that still has traces of golden blood peeking through. Whoever they are and divine or not, they must be very disorientated and confused right now. It wouldn't be good for their recovery if he started interrogating them right now. Although, why do they keep staring at him as if he's some sort of cute puppy that they want to pet? It's unnerving him slightly but Illuga is composed enough to not show it as he expects their answer.
What Illuga is certainly not expecting is the stranger grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him back and forth as they unleash a barrage of excited questions. The whole experience makes Illuga dizzy and it takes a while before he's able to comprehend what's happening and untangle himself from their hold. What the.... He was absolutely not expecting that to happen! Now he's a little scared of getting near them again....
~~~
As Illuga all but runs away from you, you sigh and sit back down. Woops, did you scare him away? You couldn't help it, you were just too excited to see your favourite character IN THE FLESH!!! Nevermind how this is possible, Illuga is right there! This is just like something that would happen in a fanfiction and also something you've spent 35 days, 10 minutes and 37 seconds wishing to be a reality! Snapping out of your thoughts and noticing his cautious look, you hold out a hand towards him like one might do to a startled cat.
“I’m really sorry about that…. Did I scare you? C’mon, I won’t do that again! Trust!!”
Unfortunately, it seems you’ve scared him off for good as Illuga quickly retreats and exits the room. Now you’re all alone in this big and empty clinic. Finally deigning it safe to check on your arm, you slowly unwrap the bandage and gasp at what you see. The gash is almost gone? There’s still some tender pink skin around the area but most of the actual injury is fully healed. How is this possible- Oh my gods, don’t tell me you were reincarnated into a genshin SAGAU fanfic. What if there’s an imposter here too?? And acolytes coming to kill you??? And, and- Okay, calm down. Judging by Illuga’s reaction, he didn’t recognise you which solves two of your biggest problems. One, there is no imposter here yet. Two, there isn’t a cult worshipping you yet. Phew, looks like you’re safe for now! You wonder where Illuga went…..
part 2 some yippeee :DDDD
since this is essentially only illuga x reader, i wont be writing any other characters in as love interests (a few of them will appear as side characters tho)
this way illuga is the only acolyte and this series will be shorter lolll
Got bored and wrote a little spooky story, let me know if I missed something that needs to be tagged. Its a little over 2 pages in a google doc.

I like my job. Its close enough to my apartment for me to walk to work. It pays well enough, I’m never pressed for money, plus my boss gives me a bit of a discount. The neighborhood is good enough, I don’t necessarily feel threatened walking so late at night. The store is pretty small and my shift is usually pretty quiet so I work it alone. My friends visit during my shift sometimes, its nice.
I like my job. But its hard sometimes. There’s only so long you can avoid cleaning the bathroom. There’s only so long you can avoid going to the back to take out the trash. There’s only so long you can ignore the glass windows and the flickering lights. The community is very superstitious, they tend to blame a lot of things on the supernatural. One of my neighbors told me a story once, about the convenience store. They said it used to be a house and that the people who owned it almost never left. The man would come out once a week to buy food and supplies for his family. No one knew how they made any money. Their neighbors were terribly afraid of them and one night someone set the house on fire. No one ever found the bodies.
I never believed in the supernatural, I thought it was all ridiculous. I still don’t. Everything has a logical explanation. The store isn’t haunted. Its just the air conditioning blowing on my back. Its just my shadow in the bathroom mirror, there’s no one behind me. I’m just tired and the fluorescent lights are so bright. That family is long dead, people died all over the place before modern medicine, there is nothing special about this convenience store.
Right?
There was a man in the store one night. I never saw him come in, but I noticed him staring at me while I was sorting change. He was silent at first, ignoring my attempts to help him. I assumed he wanted to buy cigarettes, the smell of smoke was choking me. He asked me if I’d seen a little girl, he left when I said no. I called my boss after he left, it seemed like the lights were going out, he’d been so dark I couldn’t make out his face. I chose to ignore the blood on his sleeves.
The convenience store is famous around town for another reason. Days after the house burned down, three men were found dead inside. Their tongues had been ripped out and their bodies were charred beyond recognition. In front of their bodies was a picture of the three of them together, talking. They had been the most vocal people about their distaste for the people who owned the house. No one talked about the murder, no articles about it were never published. After that, the man who owned the house could be seen roaming the streets late at night, around 3am.
My shift is late, its easier to balance school work that way. I get in at 12am and clock out at 6. I take my classes online, so I don’t need to worry about getting to school. The night after I saw the man, a repairman came in to check the lights. Nothing was wrong with them. I chose not to think about it. My boss wanted me to clean the bathrooms that night. The men’s room went fine, just a little tidying up, as usual. I always dreaded the women’s room. There was something unsettling about that room. It was darker than the other, my boss said there was faulty wiring he couldn’t afford to fix. The fatigue of the late hours didn’t do great for my dark vision. The shadows blended together and sometimes it looked like there was a figure looming over me in the mirror. That night was no different. I was halfway done cleaning the stalls when a loud noise startled me. The bathroom door had slammed shut, I usually leave it open when I’m cleaning. I started working faster. Once I finished cleaning the stalls and started to leave, I stole a glance at the mirror. There was a woman in the corner of the room, crying. The walls of the stalls blocked the light, so I couldn’t make out her features. I stopped in my place and asked what was wrong. She said her daughter was gone. I offered to look for her and she repeated the statement. I left her in the bathroom and listened to her sob for the rest of my shift.
I was the only person to enter the store during my shift that night.
Nothing out of the ordinary happened for a few weeks. One night, however, a little girl came into the store. She said she was looking for her father, so I offered to try and call him and let her wait in the store for him. She agreed to wait with me and ignored any further questioning about calling. She was quiet for a while before complaining of being too hot. I turned down the air conditioning for her, she complained again a few minutes later. I tried offering her cold drinks and she refused, continuing to complain. She started crying and I panicked, she kept begging for help. I tried to call an ambulance but the store phone wouldn’t work and my cell just gave static. I reached out to check her temperature. I thought she was sick and had a fever. My hand burned when I touched her, it was as if I had touched fire. She kept crying louder and the begging wouldn’t stop. It was too late by the time I realized the sobbing was louder because I heard two people. I saw her in the bathroom doorway, staring at me and crying. She approached me slowly and I startled, falling backwards and crawling away. I heard footsteps behind me and turned to see the man. He loomed over me and I could see the blood staining his scarred hands. I couldn’t see his face, but I could feel his rage as he leaned closer to me. He never yelled. He leaned as close to me as he could and whispered in my ear, telling me that if I hurt them he’d rip out my tongue and burn me too. I turned to the mother and child. I wish I never had. Their bodies were mangled, swallowed by flames, flesh melting off bone. When I turned back to the man he was gone - so were the others. I quit my job the next morning and never went back to the store.
Today, the police came and knocked at my door. They said the store was burned down and the person working my old shift was found dead, her tongue ripped out. By hand. They questioned me, they thought I might have information since I used to work the shift. I never told them about what happened. That family is dead. That man has been dead for years, he didn’t rip out her tongue. She didn’t add to the teeth marks in his hands. They wouldn’t have believed me anyway. It doesn’t matter how superstitious a town is, the thought is ridiculous. And some things are better left unsaid.
I can’t sleep well anymore. I keep hearing her sob. I keep hearing her beg for someone to save her. I keep seeing him looming in the doorways. I never said anything, why is he still there? I can’t scream anymore and its so, so hot and I’m exhausted. Hopefully I can sleep for the rest of the night, its only 3am.
