Almost hard to believe! This kind of fire could have been avoided, and residents could have been allowed to escape before it became an inferno.
I've watched a few videos with various opinions on the horrific burning of Grenfell Tower in London and all the residents who were terrifyingly trapped inside and died, but this woman really stood out to me with what she has to say. I feel she may be right... there may be far more residents dead than anyone is admitting at the present time.
Please don't feel compelled to comment on this post... I know it's a difficult subject to comment on when none of us were there when it happened and neither do we know people who lived there. I wanted to post this for anyone who isn’t aware of this very large tower block fire in London, and also share some of the videos I found, opinions are very different than what you will in most cases see on the main news channels... always be wary of what news channels will tell you, they rarely tell the true story.
Also the subject of the council treating tenants like they don't matter, ignoring basic fire safety and building regulations is of great interest to me, something that really gets me very angry. I wanted to share an experience my brother had with the council. Please feel free to share your stories if you have one too, I would be interested to know, in the UK or anywhere in the world regarding renting from a local council.
A couple of years ago my brother's council home and his adjoining neighbours were infested with a large amount of rats. They came up old drain pipes that were not capped off at the top when a new roof was fitted. The rats came directly from the sewer, up the drain pipe and moved into the loft. Of course my brother and his neighbours complained, but it took weeks to deal with as the reaction from the council was like a ten foot deep brick wall... they denied there was a problem at all. Rats died, no one could sleep at night because of the noisy rat activity, then a rotten stench of dead rats filled my brothers home, and even then the council had the total cheek to suggest my brother was imagining it all.
They reacted soon after I phoned them explaining that if my brother had a nervous break down (which he was very close to by that point) or if he had to move out and live in my home, and I lost my home due to my tenancy not allowing me to have anyone living with me - I would sue the council. Only then, did the council start to deal with it. There is no loft access to the roof above my brothers home, so the ceiling was cut open where the smell was at it's worst, and dead rats were brought out. It was a horrible stressful day for everyone involved.
In the process of cutting open the ceiling my brother noticed there was no fire protection between him and his neighbours home at roof level. When he pointed it out, yet again the council tried to ignore his questions, but eventually told him there was sufficient fire protection in the roof. It was nearly a year later, when finally under enormous pressure the council agreed to send experts in, to cut open his ceiling... and sure enough, no fire protection at all!! Just a great big gap where you could see right through to the neighbours loft. The council had lied, there never had been any fire proofing.
If there had been a fire in either of the properties it would have rapidly ripped through the roof into the adjoining building and burnt through the ceiling. Luckily for my brother, he's pretty good on matters of law, so managed to force the council to install sufficient fire protection. When I saw this horror in London, my mind went back to what my brother had endured, the stress it caused him and myself. And how many times I have heard or read news articles of councils in the UK, just not dealing with important issues with the homes they rent, and pretty much doing as they please.
And yet... my own landlord, who rents privately must comply to a great list of safety regulations drawn up... by the local council. If he fails to install every one, he'll face a huge fine. So why is it a council can rent homes like this and not maintain fire regulations? I'm disgusted how ordinary people who work for the council treat other people, just like themselves, as if they don't matter at all... they don’t listen to them, they put them down and treat them all as subnormal... and this is the result... death and destruction.
There's no need for this kind of thing to happen... it should never happen... it needs to stop... the attitude has to change. Start damn well listening to people. When they say something isn’t right... believe them!
Two other videos you may find of interest...
What this Muslim woman has to say about what happened at Grenfell Tower is important, don't miss it. And please don’t go by the You Tube title.. it’s nothing like what she actually says. She explains she filmed the fire with her phone and how even when the fire was very small, residents were told by the police to stay in their flats. She says the firefighters arrived two hours later! By that time the fire was out of control. So why on earth didn’t they let people get out while the fire was only effecting one corner of the building? Something terribly wrong there.
Grenfell Tower Fire: Joe Delany, Local resident claims concerns over safety were repeatedly ignored... this is an excellent interview. Joe describes how the first thing that caught fire was the emergency staircase. It seems that new gas pipes had been fitted along the emergency stairway, because it was the quickest way to fit them from the bottom to the top of the building and then drill through to the flats to join the new boilers. Totally outrageous... an emergency stairway shouldn’t have anything fitted that could catch fire and explode!!!!!
This one is a little less defined, but give it a minute, it gets more interesting as it progresses. Interesting to see what people in the area feel about the whole disaster and the way the council run everything.
