The fair was full of buzzing energy, so many people were here from kids to adults that it was a little difficult to move through the crowds. At one point, you and the girls lost Karen. Which was a terrifying few minutes trying to find her again. When you did, you found her eyeing a massive stuffed tiger that was hung by one of the mini games.
The look of awe in her eyes made it nearly impossible to say no to at least trying to play the game. Up first was Gretchen, who had the most determined look in her eyes. The mini game was a ring toss. Gretchen picked up one of her three rings, aimed, and tossed it. The ring twirled around the top of the far post, before simply bouncing off helplessly to the side of it.
“Ooooo, tough luck,” the mini game host stated as he watched them.
Gretchen huffed and grumbled something to herself that you couldn’t quite catch, she picked up the second ring and aimed for the same post she’d nearly gotten before. This time the ring didn’t even make it to the height of the post. It ricocheted off the base and almost hit the host. He had to duck out of the way, looking a little startled as he glanced at Gretchen. Who had the decency to look embarrassed.
“Um… nearly there,” he awkwardly cleared his throat.
Regina laughed, finding the whole thing utterly amusing. You stifled your own laughter, being polite enough to not outwardly laugh at your girlfriend. When the startled look passed from the host’s face, even he looked a little amused. Now that he wasn’t in danger of being the target.
Karen placed a hand to Gretchen’s shoulder, a kiss landing on her cheek,” I think you can do it.” She assured her, the blush on Gretchen’s cheeks turned a little deeper shade of red.
“I think that last shot was a sign,” Gretchen murmured with a little pout tugging at her lips.
Regina rolled her eyes at Gretchen’s dramatics,” watch this,” she smirked and picked up the finale ring. Giving it a toss and-
Wasn’t even close to the post. It smacked into the back wall of the stand. Regina’s cheeks flushed before she scoffed and crossed her arms,” it’s rigged. Obviously.”
“Looks like you’re all outta rings, maybe if you play again you’ll get it!” The host encouraged them to buy a second round of rings. You stepped up and decided to take a whack at it, purchasing the second round. The host handed you the three rings, a smirk on his lips as he gave you a nod.
“Good luck, kid!”
You picked up one of the rings, eyes narrowing in on the post Gretchen had been aiming for prior. You took your first shot, it hit the top of the post but caught it on the wrong angle and fell with a clatter.
With gritted teeth, you picked up your second shot and tried again. It got closer, but once again caught the wrong angle.
“Oooo, nice try! One more shot,” the host commented.
Taking breath first, you aimed and tossed. Fist clenched as you internally found yourself chanting its victory.
It sailed through the air and hooked around the post, twirling down the metal. Third time’s the charm after all. You got it! Gretchen and Karen both cheered, Gretchen’s own fists flying into the air. Regina chuckled at their antics but was secretly quite proud of you too.
“Well I’ll be, looks like we have a lucky winner!” The host announced, he gestured to the prizes,” take your pick!”
You pointed to the tiger stuffy that Karen had been eyeing and the host smirked,” if you want that big guy, you’re gonna have to get a couple more rings on!”
“Oh come on!” You groaned, classic fair tricks.
Regina slammed down her cash, staring directly at the host who smiled and handed you another three rings. Ring one, miss. Ring two was a hit! But ring three was another miss. You gestured to the ring that landed and the host shook his head,” gotta get three rings!”
You groaned and Regina gave him some more money, earning yourself another round of three. Miss, miss, hit!
“Boom! Third ring!” you pointed to it, the host rolled his eyes at your boast but took down the long awaited tiger stuffy and handed it to you. Which you then gave right to Karen, who looked beyond happy. Even more happy than a child on Christmas morning.
“Tiger!” Karen exclaimed happily, bouncing over to you and giving you a kiss of thanks. One that you happily returned. Regina looked into her wallet, that game definitely took quite the chunk from her.
