You laughed as you watched him swim, paddling on his back like a starfish. Grey had been training and then you had joined, sitting down on the riverbank and not making a sound, and when he'd spotted you, he had begun doing all these ridiculous things until your stomach had started hurting and you'd had to bend over to catch your breath.

You were wiping at your eyes when you eventually heard him wade out, straightening your back and throwing his towel at him, watching him catch it with ease. He was grinning at you, that lovely, beautiful grin of his, and had you not already been doing so you were sure you would have too.

"You okay?", he asked, shaking his hair and letting the water drops fly everywhere. You heaved yourself up from the ground.

"More than just okay", you smiled, taking the few steps towards him and grabbing the towel out of his hands again, leaving him with his mouth hanging open as you danced away, waving it through the air and sticking your tongue out at him.

He shook his head and laughed.

"You're unbelievable."

You took a step back and gasped theatrically, holding the towel above your head and raising your eyebrows.

"What? You want this? This?", you asked, pausing for a second.

"Come and get it."

And then you ran.

The forest was dry - it hadn't rained in days and the ground was perfect to run on. But you weren't as athletic as he was. He was fast, swift. And you heard his steps way too quickly way too close behind you.

Of course you hadn't started running thinking he would not catch up with you. But you had indeed believed he'd take more than two seconds to wrap his arms around your side, catching you and holding you in place as you laughed, laughed and laughed and laughed, and turned around to look at him, making him grab your waist instead, and laughed some more.

"Here", you said with a giggle, dropping your head against his chest and throwing the towel over his shoulder.

When you had finally calmed down, you exhaled deeply and looked up at him, the last chuckle dying on your lips. He was already watching you.

Your cheeks heated up all by themselves, but your lips twitched upwards regardless.

"You look adorable", you muttered, running one of your hands through his wet hair.

"I do?", he asked.

"Yup", you breathed, finally catching his lips in a kiss. You'd been waiting for too long to do that anyway.

"Grey?", you asked, barely understanding your own whisper. You yawned, almost hitting your face with your hand as you tried to cover your mouth. Not that anyone would've seen it. Not in this darkness. Not in your room, anyway. The only people here were you and Grey.

Though he didn't answer. You rolled onto your side and patted the mattress for him. But even after a minute of searching, you couldn't find him.

"Grey?", you repeated with a frown, a bit louder this time, your voice still hoarse from sleep. Still no response.

You sat up, rubbing your eyes, and grabbed your phone from the bedside table. It took a few tries for you to find it.

"Grey?", you said again, narrowing your eyes as you looked at the time. 4:23. What the actual fuck. Where was Grey? There was no way he was in the bathroom, otherwise you'd see the light through the gap in the door. Alright, shit, you'd need to get out of bed and find him now.

Barefoot, you tiptoed out of the room, using your phone as a torch. You avoided the doorframe by a millimetre, cursing under your breath. The ground was cold. You really should've taken a second and put some socks on.

"Grey?", you whispered into the dark living room, pointing your phone at all the furniture from left to right.

When you saw him, you had to chuckle. He was cuddled up on the couch, one foot already hanging off it, the blanket carelessly thrown over himself, an arm somehow sticking up into the air. He was somehow looking both cute and really- well, you couldn't even describe it. Instead, you opened the camera app on your phone, pointed it at him and took a pic.

You'd have to wake up in a few hours anyway. Better leave him here sleeping peacefully (for whatever reason, you'd ask him in the morning) rather than wake him up now.

With another look at him, you turned around again and got back into bed. You were just settling in when the mattress dipped down.

"Did you take a picture of me?", he asked, voice husky. A smile on your lips, you rolled around to face him, scooting back to make space.

"Did you really think I wasn't going to?", you laughed, waiting for him to lay down.

He shrugged, which you couldn't see, but feel now that he was next to you again.

"Why'd you go out there in the first place?", you whispered, chuckling as he pulled you close and closer. He was warm, despite barely having been under a blanket.

"Thought I'd sleep better there", he answered. You brushed your fingertips over his chest, drawing some pattern, or maybe not, just allowing yourself to soothe you and him both.

"Still nightmares?", you asked. He'd been having them for months.

"Yeah", he sighed.

For a while, you stayed silent. You couldn't help him, you hadn't been able to before and you wouldn't now. But you knew that you could at least calm him down or distract him.

"Want to pick out a podcast or something and just make out with me?", you suggested, grinning, even though he couldn't see, and propped your chin up on his torso.

"It's half past four", he reminded you. You tilted your head to the side and traced your fingers down his arm, from his shoulder to his hand, which was resting comfortably on your waist.

"And?"

He laughed. You took that as an answer and leaned forward.

The two of you still had some hours left after all.

"Grey", you slurred, leaning heavily on his shoulder. He was just as drunk as you, so doing that made nothing easier. He was swaying and so were you. God, you should not have drank this much. "Grey, where's my bed?"

"Your bed?", he asked, just as unintelligible as you. "We're in my room, there's only my bed."

"I'll sleep" - this was where you started hiccoughing and wobbling into the room, into the dark - "on the ground, then."

"Ground?", he asked, stumbling after you, catching your wrist. "We have practise tomorrow."

You stopped, staring at him. Practise? Practise! Ugh. You didn't particularly care to think about what would be tomorrow.

"So we share the bed so that my back doesn't kill me", you shrugged, letting yourself fall down on the soft mattress with an oomph. Grey followed suit, landing on your arm, apologising profusely as you pulled it away, even though you just started giggling.

"Sorry", he mumbled, for the fifth or so time. You shook your head, feeling for his shoulders in the dark.

"Where are you?", you asked quietly, then let out an "Aha!" when you touched his jaw - and pulled him in.

You'd never kissed Grey before.

It was sloppy, breathless. He tasted of alcohol and smoke (though you hadn't seen him with a cigarette). You were quite sure you did too (and you certainly had smoked).

"Kill me", you groaned when you pulled back. "I'm gonna have such a bad headache tomorrow."

A minute later, you were fast asleep, Grey's fingers brushing through your hair, your snores growing louder and louder.

“The lake is green out here. The locals say it’s because of the algae. I think it’s because the lake is so old it doesn’t know the colour blue.”

Aisha hummed, Grey’s quiet whisper lulling her into peace. She shouldn’t be talking to him, and she knew it. But he had shown up in the woods three days ago, with the softest look on his face and as much as Aisha had prided herself on not falling into the trap of boys and crushes and love in the past, it was clear that she couldn’t anymore.

She was in love with him, and she knew it.

“Green huh?” She said in response, looking up from her phone to stare at Bloom’s empty bed. The room felt colder and more like a cage these days without her. Sometimes, despite how selfish it would sound, she wished that Bloom hadn’t left. That there was someone who could be there to help her through this.

But you don’t always get what you want, and her whatever the hell she had with Grey was proof of that.

“I miss you.” She said after the long silence. She could hear his breathing on the other side - slow and steady. “I miss you too.”

A tear rolled down her cheek. “I hate you. For what you did. For Bloom did.”

Grey was silent for another minute before he spoke. “I hate me too. I’m sorry. I’ve said it before, but I’m really sorry, Aisha.”

She laid down flat on her pillow, curling up further into her blankets.

“Yeah. I am too.”
