the grey goshawk is an australian bird of prey. in most cases, when a bird of prey exhibits major white coloration, it’s a random genetic mutation. grey goshawks have a fairly common white morph, in which the full body is white.

April 28, 2019 - Grey Goshawk (Accipiter novaehollandiae)

These goshawks are found in the forests of northern and eastern Australia. They eat birds, small mammals, reptiles, and insects, chasing their prey in flight, or sometimes ambushing it. Pairs defend their territories throughout the year, building their nests from sticks and leaves in the forks of trees. Females do most of the incubation and males catch most of the food for the chicks. There are two color morphs, grey and white.

one more bird post today - there’s a pair of grey goshawks that come around our place semi-regularly and I’m always very excited to see them. I love that we have the white morph where I live, I think it’s prettier and much more striking than the grey morph.
