#GuitarDating 101. If you want to date a #guitar, buy it flowers and some chocolates. Ask it out for coffee at first...maybe a movie. Make sure your personal grooming is impeccable...#guitars hate being kissed by someone with bad breath or dirty fingernails. And FFS use deodorant! But seriously, here's me verifying that my new #vintage #Fender #Musicmaster II was made in 1966 as advertised. At bottom right you can see the date code on one of the pots that reads "137 6605" (meaning it was made by #CTS in the 5th week of 1966). Bottom left shows the date February 20th, 1966, penciled on the #greybottom #pickup. On top, we see what should be a #neck date stamp of "8DEC65B" (btw, the "8" is a code that means the neck was made for a Musicmaster II, not that it was made on December 8th. The "B" code tells you the shape/size of the neck). So why are the digits in the middle missing? Well, this stamp was applied with the neck inverted...i.e. upside down. Normally the stamp would be on the bottom, beneath the trussrod (i.e. the area at the top in the photo). This stamp was applied incorrectly! Ah, that legendary #CBS quality control! 😄😅😆 #vintageguitars #vintagefenders #fenderguitars #guitarcollection #guitarphotography
