Hey, I was wondering something. I had gender dyshoria and body anxiety the other day, I was wondering if you could help me with a distraction technique.
oh gosh ! well. i’m definitely not the expert on this. .. but i’ll try very hard!
one type of thing to do is to think about positive stuff. if there’s anything you like about your body (hopefully there’s something!!), focus on that. think about how that part makes you super happy! even if it’s just your nose, your eyes, your fingers, your cheeks. anything.
you can also try to think about your body in a different way, like reminding yourself that, as important as a body is, it doesn’t define you. you can still be super cute or handsome or beautiful without “conventionally attractive” means !! i’m v chubby myself but i adore my eyes and lips and thighs, but i think i’m pretty darn cute regardless, esp. in personality!
other times, just enjoying content you like (youtube videos, music, television/movies) can help distract. repeating positive self-talk thoughts, talking to a friend about how you feel.. . things like that.
gender-wise is a lot harder. you want your body to reflect what’s inside and it can be very upsetting when it doesn’t. it’s hard to recommend specific things for that, for everyone has their on method. for dfab trans folks, binding can help; for dmab trans folks, tucking and/or prosthetic breasts can help. a great support system is key!! and i’ll be the first in line to support you !!!
