10 Songs About Being A Strong Woman

A Woman. There are so many descriptions and definitions that define what it means to be a woman. If you were to Google “definition of a woman” or “define a woman”, here’s what pops up: “an adult human female”; “a female worker or employee”; “a female person associated with a particular place, activity, or occupation”, etc. Is this how women should be defined? A female worker or employee? Reading those definitions took me back for a second and I started to think, how does one really define a woman? How do I define women? I see women as being above internet or a societal standards. I think that they are holding power and strength, especially in numbers. To me, they are a bold imperfect pieces of art that were chiseled into obtaining individual beauty. Magazines, billboards, televisions, social platforms, etc. all want to try to define women as looking and being a certain way, but that’s just impossible. Women are not defined by age, race, gender, nationality, shape or size. The playlist below features ten songs that speak about being a strong woman. I hope they remind you to be yourself and don’t let anyone or anything try to define you.

Woman by Rosie Lowe - Lowe sings about how she is a proud and strong woman. She addresses someone unknown, stating that they don’t know how to it feels to be a woman or girl. 

Goddess by Banks - Banks is talking about how a girl gave her all for a lover, but they ignored her. The speaker says that they should have treated their lover like a goddess or princess, crowning her and respecting her, but now they have to deal with the mistake they made.

Wolfpack by Tala and Banks - the singers are talking about how they are tired of guys and their silly games and how they need to rely on each other.

Video Girl by FKA Twigs - FKA Twigs talks about her life as a backup dancer and how she wants to be seen as a true artist.

Needed Me by Rihanna (Explicit Version) - a song about being a woman and having more important things in your life than giving all your attention to guys.

Carmen by Lana Del Rey - a song about ‘Carmen’, a charming, charismatic, young, naive girl who feels as though she has to put on an image for people.

Big Girls Cry by Sia - the song talks about how it’s okay to cry when one is hurting. Crying doesn’t make you any less of a strong or tough woman.

Her by Majid Jordan - the speaker talks about how he has a woman in the palm of his hand, but he is using her/taking control because he is afraid of losing her.

Perfection by Oh Land - a song about envy between women.

Woman by City and Colour - the singer speaks about how he loves a woman so deeply and how he wants to resurrect their love.
