The faint buzzing and humming of the TV screen in front of her had never stopped, her eyes remained strained and trained on the texts floating on it – an urgent case. She remembered the other talking about having to investigate something like that and… the situation had escalated since. Her body resting on the bench around the scene of investigation, coat draped across her shoulders – it had been HOURS and she hadn’t heard a single word about her.
Meredith was worried, her eyes closed and she could only swallow that lump in her throat. She shook her head, PRAYING to a god she didn’t believe in that she would make it out alive. Because Meredith albeit a doctor, was no miracle worker and she hated that she had to bank on a miracle.
Then, the SWAT team rushed out – her green eyes widened, desperately searching for her in the crowd. And the moment they met, she ran up and cupped her face into her hands, pressing a firm kiss against her lips before pulling her into her arms tightly. She wasn’t going to cry. She promised herself that and yet, with her heavy breathing and the adrenaline rushing through her veins that was all she could do.
“Never do that again. You can’t leave me. Not like this. ” Pulling away, her fingers still rested against her cheeks. Green eyes watery, as a heavy sigh of relief fell from Meredith’s lips.
She didn’t think about the fact that she kissed her friend. She didn’t even think about it because right now, JJ consumed her. The thought of losing her consumed her and she hated how much she was being affected by it all.
“ Let me see your injuries.”
JJ had been planning for this entire thing to go down differently. She had been meaning to solve the case with the team and then call Meredith to spend a day or two with her. Not to cause her to worry THIS much. Her job was dangerous, there was no denying that, but it was rare that they actually put themselves in such danger.
The guy had abducted another woman and without any proof they had no right to invade his home, and without really knowing if he kept her there they couldn´t do much. So instead JJ had offered to ring the door bell and look around before giving a sign so they could be saved.
But she hadn´t been able to send the signal and had instead almost been knocked out by a baseball bat. Crawling to get her gun back she had managed to fire a shot eventually, alerting her team and had eventually been pulled out.
Her head was hurting and for a moment she wasn´t quite sure what was happening, but when she felt hands on her face and Meredith came into view JJ felt her heart miss a beat.
And then she felt lips on hers and maybe she forgot to breathe for just a second.
“Mer.” She eventually managed, hands coming to hold onto the other woman. “I´m...fine. What are you doing here?”
