Allesandra certainly wasn’t expecting the young man that was walking up her drive like a lost but determined rabbit deep in a foxhole. His father was a particularly stubborn old fool that had given the family grief for some time. In fact, he had been the judge to sign off on a few search warrants that had impacted her grandson in particular. Now, why would his young, upright son be talking a lonely stroll to her front door?

The medicinal bottle of wine was stashed and her cigarette squashed before windows were thrown open and fresh coffee set to boil on the stove. A few of the older children were divided up to go and inform the others that they had a guest. She sent her favorite curly headed Irish child, barely seven, to go and fetch their unexpected visitor from the front.

Smoothing her dress, she made her way into the parlor room where a pleasantly surprised smile greeted the young man. “I did not expect anyone, I hope you forgive the wait. I was busy with the children.” She greeted warmly.
