this wasn’t a world for children. violence begot violence, and other than a row between neighbors, she had never seen anything. of course there was television, blood always covered the screen -- but this was real. she screams, terrified. though she’s glad to be out of their grasp; it put her brother in the direct line of fire. she can’t do anything but scream once more as dirt becomes dust around the FIGHT. her hands shake as she trembles, she should do something !! there was a gun, right ?? Theo had one, she had seen it. but she didn’t know how to use it, what if she shot him ?? no, best to just -- stand here. . . and it’s as if she becomes automatic as she runs forward, hoping to knock the man off distract him, SOMETHING. she might get hurt too, but if she can give her brother a moment to get on his feet they might have a chance to run away. “ get off of him !! ”
