Well Playful Land actually tipped over a lot of my anger cause of how the guys were acting. It was just icing on the cake that Grim and Yuu are written so stupidly during that event that it ACTUALLY started pissing me off. It's at this point that I ignore Grim to the fullest.
Not to victim blame, but like how are yall being this dumb and chill with the human trafficking stuff?? Like did yall forget half of the abilities yall have??? What about the other trafficking victims?? We literally saw some if them get hauled away crying and it's never brought up. again?? The implications of this place existing??? Doubt we're gonna get that dark let's be real.
Also yeah Yuu and Grim were definitely there... Why is Yuu pulling on Grim?? Why couldn't you have just pointed and go "burn that mfer" if any of them used their brains fully they could have actually gotten out easy. Sure, stress and panic are real but Cater seemed to a least have an okay idea among it all. Grim was just annoying per usual.
Also yeah... I swear in events, they really make characters into caricatures. I can hardly stand Azul because they make him so annoying im events on top of him being a little shit (positive) in canon. I love him but oh my god I'm fatigued. (The whole octotrio suffer from this imo)
And the Bead Brawl/Tail event? I get that they're probably setting up a part 2 with Falena but yall seriously drove off without Yuu and Grim and just left them in an unknown area? Are you guys stupid or was this malicious, cause Yuu being left behind by their group should be their 13th reason. Let's also not get started on all them being so surprised Leona, a grown ass man, can drive a fucking car. What if Yuu was capable of fighting? (I imagine it's cause they don't have papers tbh)

Oh! I dont usually see Grim dislike/hate. Can I ask why you don't like him? I think there's def room for improvement for him, but I cant find it in me to truely hate him since he reminds me of a character I really like. (Puppycat from Bee and Puppycat)
He's just such wasted potential.
Look I'm into flawed characters, but I don't like stagnant asshole characters that are in the majority of a media. Grim has barely improved since the start of the game.
He's rude, obnoxious, continues to actively cause you problems and throws you under the bus quite often (I mean look at the most recent Crewels SSR card– he tries to blame you for his mistakes and yet still gets you in trouble).
In every event he's the same. Be annoying, make a few dumb/rude remarks abt the culture, "I'm hungrryyy". I think in one event I've counted him talking abt food abt 35 times? Like I don't mind the trope of "monster creature loves food" but that's all he is and doesn't have half the endearing traits. He never shuts up about himself. He's so boring/generic. How is Morgana better than him
He still seldom shows affection for you. Like you barely get to semi bond when talking about his past. This was the only main scene we had to get attached to him before book 6. Seriously throughout every book he's just been overly cocky, rude, annoying, and suddenly you care only about him and not the fact that several people were kidnapped and the school was trashed and that the world is ending.
I thought he would have a huge change of heart after book 6 and his moment of him crying— which honestly didn't move me cause he didn't do anything for us to get attached to in canon. You really have to make up your own headcanons and theories to really make him "good". He's also your buddy but it seems he aknowedges as much as the rest of the cast
He didn't even have a change of heart as he immediately went back to being him. Sure there was that scene in book 7 where he says he's gonna protect you and calls out for you but it's like... cool you had several years to develop and we have maybe 4 scenes of you being an actual character and not some plot device/instigator.
The other thing too is how he is in school. He wants so badly to be a good mage and be the best in NRC but doesn't actively do anything to achieve that. He continues to never study and slack off (which fucks Yuu over cause they're 1/2 a student).
By all means, I'm not saying he can't be annoyed at what being a mage entails or a hypocrite (flaws are important). But he's been one for years and hasn't changed a bit. He still has shown very little improvement for someone who claims to sorta care about his "henchhuman" he certainly continues to impact their grades and school life. (Plus consider yuu not being from this world and all the extra effort they have to put in for a -C, its implied in the book). I wouldn't be surprised if he hurt Yuus pockets a lot too with his selfish appetite.
The main issue I have with him overall is the lack of consequences for him. He almost set everyone on fire? OK. He apparently scratched yuu very bad and that's that. No scene where you confront him about it or the rocks that he eats that you continuously warn him about. You can argue book 6 was the punishment but it didn't seem like it. He'll cause so many issues and get a slap on the wrist for it.
I think the best thing to do right now is to have Yuu snap at him so he improves. Fuck up their friendship. Make him realize he has been bad and actually have him change. A dramatic friend breakup. It would be the only way for Grim to change quickly rn with how long it's been
Have Yuu become a full student and watch him fall apart as Yuu doesn't need to rely on him and they're able to get their As in peace as Grim gets his Fs. Let them get angry. Seriously I'm so mentally ill over the concept of Yuu in general esp in game Yuu and all the ways to make them foils to characters or have them be angst fuel.
I want to like Grim. I love found family. But he just doesn't deserve that currently. He just sucks.
Do do understand why people like him. But I'm not one of them with the state he's in. I'm sorry I don't feel bad at all.
Straight up, I get annoyed at the babyifying of Grim. I see him like the other first years at least. A shithead asshole who needs to get knocked down a peg.

The Scalding Sands event is when I went from tolerating Grim to hating him.
The very first thing he does is whine like a petulant child for Kalim and Jamil to take him on a trip that he has no business or right to be involved in. How hard would it have been to make him just a little less annoying about it? Instead of throwing a tantrum, he just gets super bummed and that’s what convinces Kalim. And then, throughout the entire event, he’s just causing trouble and telling Yuu to do things for him, even suggesting they dance like an idiot so he can get money.
That was the moment I stopped and realized how awful Grim is, and he’s only gotten worse.
I think that event is when my hatred for him really peaked cause wtf.
I hate the whole "Grim harasses someone and gets what he wants no repercussions" thing as a way to get us in events cause like he's just an asshole. Like he really gets to do anything huh? That's so boring like give us some fucking push back.
And then we still have to babysit the pissbaby. Also he came off as so disrespectful to the culture too like damn okay Grim I see how it is. It's just so ??? Like stop giving Jamil of all people extra work bro.
Also the whole scene of them being flabbergasted by a fucking flash drive being used for the fireworks show like bro did you not think this place had modern tech??? Reminds me of non natives attending our ceremonies and are like... so weird abt it.
You're a passionate Grim hater (me too), but have you ever considered trying to rewrite Grim in a better way (like actually making him go through the character development he was robbed of)? Or has he become so unbearable that the only way you'd like him was on a kebab?
Yes I've thought of many ways to redeem him and make him good and all while keeping some bastard traits but my hatred for him is so great I often don't even include him in my fics cause he's such a pain to fucking write— I barely have Yuu even care for him if he's mentioned cause like, he sucks and is a plot device in Canon anyways

I'm going to assume at the very end of the game or at least after Grim's overblot, that's when he gets a full character development moment and if that happens, I'm going to be pissed off.
Also, my headcanon is whenever Yuu is based on or off a character or Twisted From, that character would treat Grim differently.
For example, My Yuusona is based on the Seven Disney Villian Recruiters and has outwardly charming demeanor, but he would definitely manipulate Grim into better behaviors and force character development onto him to get what he wants.
If Grim suddenly has a change of heart without apologizing for his past actions I will never forgive him even if he becomes the perfect pookie wookie wigglebutts. There has to be some acknowledgment

Or maybe someone to snap at Grim for them and when Yuu tries to defend them, they're like "really? How much has he returned for each sacrifice you made? Don't you think your life would have been much easier and less eventful without him?
And Yuu just goes quiet because they're right. They just don't want to admit it...
Bonus if maybe it's a sibling Yuu has like "you are my only family I have left in this world and I'm not going to take any mistreatment towards you lightly. Yuu. These people have almost got you killed many times. Its not okay."
