sometimes children just cried, sometimes they were sad or afraid of things beyond imagination. whatever it was that made the younger girl suffer, dohwan, ten years old, decided to walk up to her and offer his comfort. as he staggered closer, he noticed the bleeding knee that probably was the cause for her tears. tilting his head he slowly slid into her field of vision, before he kneeled down in front of her. "hello, are you ok?" the little girl shoke her head, sniffing, when looking up at him. dohwan blinked at her for a moment, contemplating about what to do. they were outside in a rather wide garden of a high society event, and there was no one else in sight. it was late autumn and pretty cold outside, so there was no way he could just leave her like this.
"wait here for a moment, i'll be right back and bring some help!" the boy raised himself up to run back inside, just to be yanked back by a small hand, tugging on his fingers. her eyes grew even bigger, when he was about to leave, thick tears kept overflowing, dropping onto the ground like rain drops. "if you don't let go, i can't get help." he raised his eyebrow, being at a total loss. the younger girl shoke her head once again and words stumbled over her pinkish lips as she told him to not leave her alone. it was scary being left behind, like abandoned in this huge garden area.
he let out a sigh, it couldn't be helped then. "ok, i'll stay here with you." dohwan let himself flop back next to the female, patting her head gently, while she was rubbing away the tears. "hey, how about i'll carry you inside? i'm pretty strong." he flexed his arms, trying to show off his lanky limbs. no reaction at all. seeing her crying had made him wish to make her smile, but she seemed to be harder to please then he expected from a child much younger than him. for a moment he sat there, thinking how to cheer her up more, before it hit him like a stroke. ruffling through his bags, dohwan took out a small creased paper crane, holding it gently between his palms. "i know it's not pretty anymore, but do you want this paper crane? i folded it myself." the pride was clearly heard in his voice, when he held it in front of her face. the younger child gaze at it with fascination, the corner of her lips gradually curled up before it turned into a fullfledged smile. a smile he would never forget ever again. and a smile that was the beginning of who he was.
