it started out as a newscast. a little destruction here and there. the team knows when to step in and when not to, especially with charles able to tap into most anything. this mutant is capable of so much but he’s lost control. lost himself and it’s paul’s job to step in and alleviate the situation enough so he can calm and hopefully talk down someone that could do worse damage. the empath has been there, with his own powers and emotions. and he just wants to help. 

before he can go in they have to clear the outside area. between himself and the one inside the building there’s a lot of powerful abilities. just to be on the safe side they need a wide area completely open.  he takes in a deep breath when he’s given the all clear, mentally preparing himself is going to be a must since he’s not sure what he’s walking into or what emotions await him on the other side of that door.

he knows exactly what the grim will say before he says it. he’s heard the stories. a man broken by circumstance with the help of his eldest brother. turned into nothing more than a hunting dog. it’s frustrating to see what his family does to innocent people. especially when they feel its WEAK to need other people. to paul that is one of the most courageous elements someone can find themselves in. to be able to ADMIT that you need someone other than yourself. 

the wounds on this man are spread far across his body and the apostle wonders how he’s still functioning at all. have they dug him in that far deep that he’s barely human anymore. somehow he doesn’t need that question answered. he knows it all too well. yet this doesn’t deter the herald from doing what he feels is right. his family might maim and destroy, but that is not who paul is. he’s the soft one... the nurturing, caring individual that has to know that those within his region are safe and cared for. 

retrieving the rags, he comes back and plops himself into the chair across from the other. hands reach to remove the first aid kit from within the man’s reach and then eyes him, as if to dare him to say something. the apostle doesn’t use his status often to get what he wants but he knows it will work. gaze drops and fingers sift through the items at his disposal until he pulls the alcohol from it and gauze. and he does so quietly.

days are filled with errands, some he is still having a hard time allotting his time for. paul was never meant to lead or be some prominent figure that deserved enough respect to be called a ‘herald’. at first during his recovery, paul couldn’t ever imagine getting past those withdrawals and NEED to ever consider himself leader material. sometimes he still doesn’t but he gives the people of cascade love and respect, which they seem to adore. he’d be lying if he said that he didn’t feel loved because oh how he soaks up all the affection that gets doted upon him. 

in those moments, when people look to him for guidance and that leadership they are also the most draining. by the end of the day the apostle is exhausted, but its a good feeling to have what he has. the respect he’s always dreamed of. this is where he finds solace, with the man of FEW words. jamie doesn’t come with neediness or expectations. there’s no need to fill the silence with words for he won’t have much to say at all anyway, so paul just sits at his side with head upon those strong shoulders because jamie will help hold him up the rest of the way. no questions asked. 

the cold nips at him and as if the wolf knows, the blanket is tugged tighter around him. frigidity in the air is almost a bit much but the warmth of the man he’s curled up to is enough for it to be tolerable. “no. this is fine. i’d rather not move yet if that is alright with you.” a moment too perfect to interrupt, fingers latch onto the shirt beneath the blanket and his head nuzzles just a bit closer as blues concentrate on the sky above.

they’ve had close calls before but this one hit too close to home. both battered and bruised because paul is too stubborn to use his healing on himself. both of their hearts are still in a manner of panic, but they lay entangled together in the dark, holding each other as close as they can get. his beard brushes against jamie’s cheek as he places gentle kisses where he can get them. 

the words are not all that random as they are said full of emotion and paul kisses jamie fiercely upon hearing them. he’s not sure exactly what that means, but he can take a hint. and oh he feels the same way. his heart does somersaults in his chest in seeing him for the first time in weeks. or when that smile lights up his whole world. paul can’t imagine ever being with anyone else. jamie is his one. his only. 

               “Forever.”

    😘 - peppers my muse with kisses

thankfully for the empath his bed within his quarters is a king size because the pair of men make use out of every single inch of it. the mattress is soft, the comforter fluffy enough to swallow them both, especially when all six foot one is plastered across paul’s small frame. jamie is leaned up just enough to not place all his weight over paul, but its enough to hide him from view from anyone else if they were there. jamie has said something so smooth and lame at the same time that it makes paul erupt into laughter, leaving him open for the man above him to begin his assault of rapid fire kisses across his warm skin.

 the action only makes, the empath laugh that much harder, will feigning pushing him away, like he’d ever try to push him away meaningfully. no. once he’s done playing his arms wrap around jamie’s neck to keep him right where he wants him because he’d be content just laying underneath his boyfriend all day if he could.  still laughing and digits getting lost in unruly hair paul is barely able to find his words. “if you leave another mark on me that is VISIBLE i’m going to make you explain it to the kids this time.”

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐈𝐑, 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄 and possibly eggs. there are points in time during this vacation where it all seems too good to be true. as if he’s simply dreaming and will wake up, disappointed by the bliss he’ll never have, but it never happens. the man he finds his arms wrapped around while standing by the stove, beams down at him. 

those eyes growing wide and a smile that could beat anyone into submission. it’s enough STILL to make the empath grow weak in the knees. fingers wade over the base of his love’s spine as he curls around to the front, blanket nearly encircling them both. “good morning,” he says with his own bright smile. standing on his tip toes, paul leans up and presses a sweet kiss to soft lips, just to ensure it is, indeed, real.

                  “i just can’t get enough of you.”

𝐀𝐒 𝐂𝐋𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐒 𝐈𝐓 𝐌𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐁𝐄, 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐒𝐌𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐏𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐄𝐓 of blankets are spread out in front of the fireplace, fire crackling lightly creating a glow around the room. the cabin built a long time ago depends on it for heat, but oh how he runs hot as this man runs his course through every nerve and vein. his shirt has long been gone, still that warmth emits from his love. lips cascade over his shoulder and neck, strong hands hold him close and all the empath can do is bask in the overwhelming feel of it all. 

his heart smashed and collided with that of jamie’s all in one ecstasy driven passion, it’s enough to already have him breathless, but it yearns for it more and more. legs already straddle those hips and paul’s fingers lost in that hair minutes ago and when the words fall from those lips, jamie hasn’t bothered to cease contact of his lips. all of it makes his breath hitch, before leaning back to place both hands cupping those cheeks. blues stare into blues, letting a thumb run over a bottom lip before he captures it with his own. “good thing you never have to.”
