Match Review: Grimsby Town 2-2 Manchester United (12-11 on pens)
Goodbye, Ruben.
I don't mean that as a "get the fuck out of my club". I mean that as a farewell, because based on how he spoke to Sky and ITV after the game... that does not seem like a man who's sticking around - and he has offered to walk before.
Andre Onana is one of the worst United keepers I've ever seen. Two goals he could and should have prevented, even if our defensive play was dogshit before it.
Dalot, Ugarte, Maguire... not good enough. Amad was poor and wasteful. Heaven had an irratic game (because young). Fredricson was bad (again age).
We did get Mbeumo's first United goal, but it was a late one. Same for Maguire. Too little, too late. Embarrassing. And then we lose on penalties - and of course it's two of the new signings missing. BANTER ERA BAYBEE.
The problem is that while people ARE fucking up, it's also on the manager to get more out of them. Tactical flexibility is part of that, especially if you have a deficiency like Ugarte having a limited passing range, or kids in at CB. You adapt. The problem is that even our worst XI from the first team should stop Grimsby. Also, Heaton or ANY kid keeper from Carrington stops both their goals. Sake.
The only possible upside is that there's more time to train. To beat these melts into players. Maybe Ruben does it, maybe someone else gets that time to mould them.
To be honest though, I feel sick. Actually, physically sick. I'm embarrassed and ashamed as a fan because of how limp and tame this all is. There's only so long you can be exasperated before it turns to resentment, and I'm worried I'm heading that way.
