❝UNDER THE DURESS OF FAMINE,
DID YOU EAT EVEN YOUR OWN BRAIN!?❞
Viral screamed in full protest, the volume of his voice thoroughly employed to convey his great disapproval. Dealing with these Humans had become the worst headache of his manufactured life thus far. And the big one was the worst of it!
The Beastman’s claws dug tiny, red pools in the heel of his hand, wrapped around the Enki’s controls, as he endured the vast irreverence of the Human’s jeers. It would have been well-worth it to crush the naked bastard like an insect - more than suitable for his grave slights against his betters. But what was this N O N S E N S E about him calling a time-out after being the loudest instigator of a battle-
Abruptly, the blond’s thoughts registered the fatigue inherent in both Ganment and pilot. Electrical malfunction. Crumpled armor. And haggard respiration of the boastful Human, within. The Beastman canted his head, a pale brow arched in demand. Was the fool about to die?
The contemplation failed to bring him joy, and he was careful not to notice that much. Enki’s mouth unhinged, allowing the Beastman to regard the human, below. Even though their biology differed, the blond could recognize the telling signs of hunger in a living being. Viral’s chin came to rest in the faintly wounded heel of his broad hand, and addressed the Human mockingly,
❝How do you expect to survive for long on the surface, Ningen,
when you can’t even manage to feed yourself adequately?❞
There was something... something valiant in the way that the fading human tended his Ganmen. Foolish. But gallant. And as ill-inclined as he was to acknowledge it, he appreciated the respect that the Human invested into his Ganmen. Viral thought of Enki as his partner. And he believed Enki would recognize the worth in the Human’s clumsy attention. His grimace settled into a vague resentment, and also, a begrudging awareness of the budding cognitive dissonance within him, in regards to these Humans.
Was he missing something, here?
❝Oi. If you’re already this spent,
Weren’t these supposed to be primitive, barely-sentient degenerates?
- you couldn’t defeat Enki, anyway. Keh, I see no disadvantage for me.❞
Then why did he feel like going this far to give the Human a chance to struggle?
The Beastman reached around his pilot’s seat, and lifted a hefty bag of supplies. Smoked meat, fresh fruits, and a heavy canteen filled with spring water burdened the sack. As he stood, he tossed the bag onto the sand, below. He was quick to follow, standing opposite the satchel - and facing the Human.
❝Today, our duel is for this.
The victor may take possession of these supplies, and do with them what they wish. You don’t have a problem with it, do you, Ningen? Like I said. You’ll lose, anyway.❞
