‘Dog-fish’ Gromit is a cracking addition to Bristol Aquarium

via Practical Fishkeeping | 4 July 2013  A fish-themed Gromit, created by angling explorer Jeremy Wade, star of TV series ‘River Monsters’, has gone on display at Bristol Aquarium.Titled 'Fish Tales', the aquatic 'dog-fish' has pride of place in the Harbour-side attraction’s foyer, and is part of Bristol’s new public art trail 'Gromit Unleashed' – featuring 80 giant Gromit sculptures dotted around the city. 

Jeremy’s Gromit, along with the other 79, will be on show for 10 weeks over the summer before they are auctioned off to raise money for Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal for the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity.

Bristol Aquarium’s David Waines said: "Jeremy is a regular visitor to the aquarium and when we discovered he was creating a fish-themed Gromit we had to have it!

"It looks fantastic in reception and the attention to detail is great – the more you look at it, the more you see. It’s also great to be a part of such a worthwhile event raising much-needed money for Bristol Children’s Hospital," he added.

Jeremy’s sculpture includes an underwater river scene, complete with a variety of razor-toothed fish as well as a fish-scaled Gromit with air bubbles coming out of his mouth.

"The idea came to me almost fully formed: Gromit metamorphosed into a fish! But then that mutated into a special wetsuit, specially designed to blend in with the underwater environment," he explained.

Jeremy Wade is a writer and TV presenter with a special interest in rivers and freshwater fish, who has been travelling (mostly solo) to the world's remote rivers for over 25 years.

He has a degree in zoology and a postgraduate teaching certificate in biological sciences. For the last five years he has been presenting the hit TV series 'River Monsters', produced by Bristol based Icon Films.
