ROSANNA PANSINO???
??????
bryce charles in the ball dress you are the most beautiful woman i've ever seen
i want to talk about father jud's last name, duplenticy. i know a lot of people have pointed out his name is practically "judas duplicity" and is the most cartoonish, ace attorney guilty name ever, and that's true and noteworthy and let's be real kind of funny. but i think the specific change to duplicity is noteworthy here.
duplicity means to be double, so to invoke the concept of duplicity is to invoke the concept of a binary. there are two things, and something that is duplicitous is both of them. duplenticy takes this and inserts "plenty." now, plenty here could be read in various ways.
you could read it as plenty as in the idea of there being plenty for everyone, which fits jud as a priest with plentiful grace who has genuine compassion for everyone he meets and wishes to help everyone, even someone he just met over the phone.
but on the other hand, what i want to highlight is how it breaks the binary established by "duplicity." jud's last name reflects how he does not view the world as divided in two, into wolves and sheep, like the priests he talks to at the start of the movie or like monsignor wicks. he believes that there are more shades of grey to it, that there are plenty of kinds of people who need different things and have different relations to faith and the world. and how he believes that that is okay.
his last name, by literally disrupting the binary by placing "plenty" in the middle of "duplicity," reflects how he is the kind of religious leader that attempts to deconstruct the binary of saint versus sinner or believer versus heretic that other religious leaders such as wicks perpetuate. it's a sign to the audience that jud is genuine and well-meaning in his love, and that he has plenty of love and grace for all those who cross his path.
happy pride month
i could talk about how the way the rest of the staff hates simone is a reflection of misplaced anger from the working class to the people slightly above them instead of the people actually creating their miserable situations for ages if i took my time some day
