(Part 1) When I listened to Mabel, I just didn't.. get it? I had trouble keeping up with it and paying attention to it. So I figured it just wasn't my thing But I see so many beautiful poems and artwork by fans that I really wish I could get into it! It looks like it would be something I like, but I just feel like I missed a vital part of the story or I was too impatient for that vital part to be revealed. I feel like I just couldn't pay attention because I didn't understand it.
I mostly listen to podcasts with just conversations or very clear/linear(?) stories. Mabel just seemed really…? Conceptual? Artsy? I’m not sure if I’m missing the symbolism that everyone else seems to get. Does this make sense? I’m wondering if this happened w anyone else and if I should try it again I super appreciate your blog btw
I completely understand and my review of the show back in May goes into detail about how dizzying I felt the storytelling was and made it hard for me to get engaged even though I enjoyed a lot of the central elements and all around plot. And yet I felt kind of isolated and confused while I was going through the feed.
You’re not alone here and I see the appeal of the show, I just think it wasn’t for me. You can read my review of it here for my full thoughts and my review of SABLE that goes with it.
Thank you very much for the message and for reading my blog. I dearly appreciate it!
