Dog-like dilemmas

Scott was cleaning up the office to close up when he heard the bell ring to signal someone coming into the clinic. He heard a whimpering that was dog-adjacent, but he knew almost immediately that it wasn’t an ordinary pet.. He’d been working in vet’s clinics long enough to distinguish particular sounds with their respective breeds. Did someone run something over and bring it in to get checked out? It happened more than he would like to admit. Scott stepped into the waiting room, looking at the man that brought the animal in.

“Everything okay?”

She smiled, but it was just to humor him, too concerned about his injures. “Let me see,” she asked him, hands gentle as they turned his face, “Do you want to tell me what happened?” It couldn’t be good, no matter who he had picked a fight with. A grounder, someone from camp who still had a problem with him?
