I usually get to the park before people are fully awake, but there is still some activity. I kept getting in one woman's way who was trying to sweep the alleys.
More signage and ephemera available today than other days when it was raining. Excellent FAQ available at the Info Desk.
One sheet listed all of the different committees that exist and when they meet. One that caught my eye was "Alternate Banking."
Guy running along Broadway stopped to talk to a woman who was holding a sign about how Wall Street takes our jobs, homes, and money. I initially thought that he might be stopping to argue with her, but in fact he wanted to know how he could help. "I couldn't deal with getting arrested," he said. "Are there ways to help without putting myself in danger of getting arrested?" The woman assured him that there were plenty of ways to help while avoiding arrest situations.
At an Info Desk full of literature, some "traders" had stopped to offer their best wishes. One of the guys behind the table -- a guy who claimed to be "the only Republican out here" -- complained to the traders about how the protesters are being smeared as anti-Semitic now. (There had been that insinuation in a NY Post column that morning.)
After warmly saying goodbye to the traders, the "only Republican" shooed away a guy offering Communist literature. The communist wanted to add his communist literature to the rest of the table. The "only Republican" said "We've been through this before." I can only assume that documents promoting a specific party aren't welcome at the Info Desk.
After taking a lot of pictures, of signs mostly, I left the park and went to get pizza on Exchange Street. They open at 9 am and I can get filled up before heading over to campus in Staten Island, where the food options are bad.
On campus, a group of students are trying to come up with an example, for an assignment, when one group is blamed for all the problems. One example they come up with is when protesters blame the 1% for all of the financial problems. Another example they come up with, also from Lower Manhattan, relates to how people protest against the "Ground Zero Mosque" as a way of blaming Muslims for the problems with terrorism.
