Group study sessions
I have hosted many group study sessions and most of them were successful. Today I want to talk about how to make your group study session as effective as possible.:
Be selective when inviting people -All feelings aside, if your friend is a noisy element, you have to leave them out. Some people will never be able to get down to work and they’ll only distract everyone.
No music -This is a hard one for most people. If you can’t really deal with no music in the background, choose something without singing. HP soundtrack is my to go choice.
Set an achievable goal -Try to be as specific as you can. Instead of saying that you’ll study for the test, say that you will go over chapter 3 and 4 and re-write your notes.
Take breaks as a reward only -Have breaks to talk after you finish some part of your goal. Talk about your breaks and the system before you start studying.
It’s okay if everyone does their own thing -You don’t necessarily have to talk together and work on one thing. Each person from the group can do their own thing. The others are there to help if needed or just to support each other.
Hold each other accountable -Make sure nobody’s slacking or all of you will go down.
Don’t take all the work on yourself -Don’t be the only one working while the others use your work.
Avoid public spaces -You will not focus in a busy café. Try to find somewhere private and quiet, where are no distractions.
Have fun afterwards -After you’re done studying, do something fun. Turn a study session into a pleasant thing so both you and your friends won’t dread the thought of another one,
I hope I helped and have a great week!
