Group Portrait Location Two - Rottenrow gardens

I have selected Rottenrow gardens as my second location as there is many different compositions that could create where the models would be a different heights. I want the models to be standing in order by height and this would be a great place to emphasise height difference. 

Equipment

Canon 550D, Speedlight, Reflector

Risks

One risk may be that the group at this location can be really slippy and mossy, so a model could fall if they are not careful.

Group Portrait Location one - The Lighthouse

The Location I am selecting is the lighthouse viewing platform. I have chosen this location as I want to have the Glasgow city skyline in the background of my image. 

Equipment:

Canon 550D, Speedlight 

Risks 

The staff may not allow us to take images and the viewing platform is only accessible via the lift.

Group Portraits - Optimisation

These are screenshots of how I edited my group portraits on location images.

I mostly wanted to increase the contrast and texture to bring out the wood and moss in the background.

I also experimented with the saturation and vibrancy as I didn’t know if I wanted a very green toned image or to desaturate the image.

All three images are edited similarly to keep them consistent, I tried to make sure the subjects popped out from the background setting.

Group Portraits - Risks & first shoot

*The location I have chosen to shoot at is the Dechmont law hills, all 3 compositions will be shot within the area so I have done one risk assessment to cover the full area:*

Location: Dechmont law hills

Date: 29/2/20

Number of subjects: 3 (minimum required)

Equipment: tripod, 50mm lens, canon 1300D body, reflector, speedlight

Props: alien masks

Subject clothing: black&green tones

4 compositions were shot at the dechmont hills however they were set up at different parts of the walk. Here are a few images of the environment:

What are the risks?

Risk of falling as the hills/walkways are muddy

Risk of walking into any low tree branches

Risk of any nearby animals being spooked by the speedlite flash

Who will be affected?

Subjects and myself

How can these risks be avoided/solved:

Find the dry patches to walk on, wear shoes that have grip/won’t be ruined by the mud/rain

Pay attention when walking through the wooded area

Ensure the flash isn’t set too high as to harm animals & check to see if any animals are close enough to be harmed.

The lighting was overcast and even on the subjects so I personally didn’t enjoy using the flash as some of the images look better without (this was when the flash didn’t fire) - however some compositions were stronger with the flash.
