Once in a blue moon pics of the kid cos she looks too darn happy posing! The #warliart design comes alive in my first quite-complex sewing project. It has a button placket, button-holes and buttons all sewed on the machine; piping and lining; sleeves based on a pattern made from scratch and fitted to this sleeveless A-line pattern from @made_everyday. Fabric design by yours truly and printed by @spoonflower. Brand-name designed by yours truly and printed with @wunderlabel. To be honest, I’m not entirely happy with this - the fabric was thicker than I expected and I added lining all the whole second guessing whether this dress really needs to be lined; blind sewing sleeves is still a painful thing for me (all those hidden pins poking away!). But hey, cutting myself some slack because really if you think about it I started sewing only in Feb! Anyway, kiddo looks happy and said to me “Don’t call this messed up! Indira is working on her “literature bag” for school. She selected a book called “The Watcher” which is about Jane Goodall. She looked through her legos and her collection of animals for this. I consider myself fortunate that I grew up in a time where the Indian economy hadn’t quite opened up to consumerism at the American scale. My childhood was full of inventiveness and creativity. From making dresses for my dolls from scraps of fabric to playing at being the three investigators or rambling with the stray cats, dogs and birds in our backyard. #Parenthood has taught me these skills anew! We made these #diy game boards for our cupcakes-and-games weekly dates and they are so user-friendly, sustainable and easily replaceable! So far we’ve been able to build our own “All queens chess”, “Tic Tac Toe” and “Checkers” game boards.
