***GARDEN UPDATE*** Signs watermelons are ready are the drying of the closest stem and drying of tendrils (although you don't want them to get too dry as it will be over ripe). I picked this melon on Sunday. THE TASTE TEST Homegrown organic watermelon has a deep rich watermelon taste. The juice is like purified water - light and airy but it carries that rich watermelon flavor. Each time you cut a piece the water from the melon is poured out. So I struggled with eating then stopping to during the water. Again, organic home grown watermelon that's freshly picked doesn't have "juice" it's purified water. MY THOUGHTS I had to stop myself from picking the others. It was small, refreshing and delicious. This one is a sugar baby, which are typically small. ***GARDEN UPDATE*** The watermelons are taking over! Lots more not shown. I water twice a day with compost mixed with water. I follow @calikim29 YouTube video for compost tea. I also add fish fertilizer twice a week (again, based on her videos) well this has given the garden a huge boost. As a matter of fact I see a noticeable difference the next day. Epsom salt is being added based on @socalgardener great tip and I see that on YouTube as well. Thanks for the great tip! **NEW Pepper PLANTS** Early one morning I went to Home Depot to pick up some more items for my garden and noticed they were throwing away plant starts. I inquired about it and they sold them to for half off (no complaints). But this is a tip if you want low cost plants check with Homedepot and if you dare Walmart (my walmart experience varies). I picked up a rosemary and lots of peppers. The tomatoes are growing and I need more peppers for salsa and sauces. That sums most of it up for this week. I have been busy lately and it's been a labor of love to continue to care for my garden. But it's so therapeutic and I owe a lot of my calmness through this period of nerve racking excitement to my garden and loving doggies. ***GARDEN UPDATE*** I fertilized my garden with an organic mix purchased from Target's. WOW!! Did it make a difference. Everything is growing including the mystery plants. I added more lettuce to be shaded by the zucchini plants. I miss my lettuce especially with the delicious tomatoes. I'm amazed by my carrots.
