***GARDEN UPDATE*** I've been enjoying the cilantro and arugula (this is the best tasting in my book). Pepper leaves in the raised bed are being devoured by caterpillars but the ones in the container are growing strong. It's time to do some work in the garden. Harvest the tomatoes, tomatillos, basil, etc. and trim something's back. My next round of watermelons are growing and I've planted the next round after they've produced. But I think it's been too hot for them. In summary, it's time to do some gardening. #growyourown #socalgardener #gyo #growyourownfood #harvest #foodnotlawns #nogmo #nongmo

***GARDEN UPDATE*** It's been so hot that everything continues to grow and re grow. It's time to harvest tomatillos and a few tomatoes are ready. The next round of watermelons are taking over. I have peppers growing although many of the leaves were eaten by caterpillars. A few are doing well. ***GARDEN UPDATE*** Signs watermelons are ready are the drying of the closest stem and drying of tendrils (although you don't want them to get too dry as it will be over ripe). I picked this melon on Sunday. THE TASTE TEST Homegrown organic watermelon has a deep rich watermelon taste. The juice is like purified water - light and airy but it carries that rich watermelon flavor. Each time you cut a piece the water from the melon is poured out. So I struggled with eating then stopping to during the water. Again, organic home grown watermelon that's freshly picked doesn't have "juice" it's purified water. MY THOUGHTS I had to stop myself from picking the others. It was small, refreshing and delicious. This one is a sugar baby, which are typically small.
