(Early days of HUNTR/X Zoemira thought.)
Zoey for the longest time viewed her two bandmates as "cool, poised, and gorgeous daughter of popstar royalty" and "sexy badass rich fashion queen with stunning dancer legs". And then there was her, "girl from America who writes lyrics and raps sometimes". Honestly, she did a very bad job of hiding the fact that she had major crushes on her two bandmates. (Especially since she knew there was a sort of unofficial "dating ban" in the K-pop industry. The last thing she wants is to get in major legal trouble in her dream profession because she's a bisexual disaster.) Besides, she's super out of BOTH their leagues, and if either one of them ever found out she had feelings for them, it would make everything super awkward forever.
What's the likelihood that the two prettiest women she's ever met in her life would both also be interested in girls anyways? (Oh honey-)
It's Mira who confesses first that she likes Zoey. A lot. Maybe even more than friends. Because they've known each other for three years (around the time she confesses), and yet she feels like she should've known Zoey all her life. Because she can listen to Zoey's voice for hours and not get annoyed. She can spent hours around her and not feel stressed or like she has to impress her. Because Zoey is always doing her best to be attentive to her and her boundaries. Yeah, she may not be 100% interested all the time in what the maknae has to say (even though she has inadvertently learned a lot just from hearing her infodump), but her presence and attention have always been more comforting to Mira than anyone in her entire life ever managed to be.
And hell, maybe it is too soon to say, but…Mira's pretty sure she loves Zoey.
It's the most vulnerable she's ever been with the younger girl. And she's spilled so many similar emotions that Zoey had been feeling for so long and thought were inappropriate to express out loud, and Mira just made her feel like the only girl in the world and-…and she freezes up.
Because is this actually happening? HOW is this actually happening??
Because Mira is Mira (hot, incredible, talented), and Zoey is just Zoey (overactive, overtalkative, overbearing)! There is no way Mira actually genuinely for realsies LIKES her! As MORE than friends! Is this a prank!? It's a cruel one! Why would Mira pull a mean prank like this!? She wouldn't, right? No. But why would this be the truth!?
And of course, because she spends so long staring at nothing and not responding, Mira loses her nerve and just tells her to forget she said anything, and that she doesn't want this to make anything weird between them. She really doesn't want to lose Zoey over something like this. If she doesn't feel the same, that's cool. Mira just needed her to know how special she was to her. And of course seeing her retreat into her shell so fast after how bold she had just been makes Zoey snap out of it. In the worst way possible.
She blurts out "take me on a date!" And then wants to die afterwards. BECAUSE WHO DOES THAT!?
Mira's caught off guard for a moment. (Trying to switch gears on the fact that she is actually not getting rejected after all.) And then - doing her best to keep an even, casual smile - "Sure. You've always wanted to go to the aquarium in Busan, right? That's the one that has the three different sea turtles. I remember you saying something about that."
She remembered Zoey saying that. She actually does listen to Zoey's ramblings. She must have been planning to take Zoey there the second she asked.
She really does like Zoey. And poor girl can't do anything but swoon.
(Related - I headcanon that Mira was Zoey's first kiss. First everything, honestly. First real friend, first date, first kiss, first girlfriend, first time.
I also headcanon that their first kiss was at an aquarium, in one of those big tunnels right in front of a huge sea turtle. And it's so perfectly out of a cheesy rom-com that Zoey still can't believe that it really happened.)
