grumpy christmas portrait
taking inspiration from the victorian family portraits that always look miserable and traditionally grumpy, (picture below), i tried to emulate them in a christmas version of my family and extended family at their house on boxing day. the reason being the victorians being notoriously grumpy in their portraits is unclear but it could be a number of reasons like the lack of medical knowledge to their ailments, or their financial situations. although in order to have someone take your portrait or family portrait you would have had to of been reasonably wealthy, anyway. maybe it was just the miserable era.
Unfortunately, this was the best of what I managed to get. This needs some editing to make it brighter and hopefully less red. I know that might be difficult though seeing as there are red walls and red decorations in the photo. As for a background story to the photo maybe it could be that they’re dissatisfied with the spread laid out for them (scraps and half opened cans) or that it’s so dark in mood that it’s brought down the whole night. The actual night wasnt like that but I feel like that story could pass when looking at the photo.
