Two Weeks Later
“What are we, I am going to do with you gone?” You cried. Tears prickled your eyes.
“We will be, you will be alright. You have your mother and father,” He rose his eyebrows “and my mum will be here for you as well.”
You nodded.
He was set to leave for Basic training the dawn after next.
The two of you had been lucky. When they found out his fluency in German and him being a medical student, he was able to put his life in order as they said.
What order? You were a mess.
Gently, he pulled back and cupped your chin. “Darling, you are one of the most determined girl I have ever met. You will be alright.”
You flushed. “You think so?”
“Remember, how much you fought for us?”
You nodded.
Your father despite liking him wasn’t terribly sure, he wanted his only daughter and to marry a pre-med, German transplant in his eyes. Though in the end, your wit and charm; and how much you truly loved Wihelm, made your father step aside. It had been a big step but in the end, he allowed you to first date then go onto marry him.
You chuckled. “It’s not everyday, I meet the most charming German, this side of the Atlantic.”
Now, it was his time to look flustered. “I got alot of that from my mum.”
“And you got her strength.”
“She is a good woman.”
“She certainly is.” You now gave him a smile. It took the tears away for now. “Its a lot to be pre-med and being bilingual.”

You cleared the table after dinner.
“I will certainly miss this.” Wilhelm, smiled at you as you grabbed the plate that sat in front on him on the table. “A delicious home cooked meal.” He sighed contently.
“You better.” You chuckled. “Just don’t you get used to having access to German food, when you get over there.” You peeked into the small dining room from the doorway it shared with the kitchen.
“Never!” He gave you a mock aghast. “Nothing, could ever top what you make for me.” He unbuttoned his suit jacket and sat back with a sigh.

You rinsed and washed the dishes quickly. A moment away from Wilhelm with time being so precious was too long. Drying your hands, you quickly loosened then removed your apron.
Coming into the living room you gasped he had lit a fire and had some music on low playing from the radio.
Tears shimmed in your eyes.
“Babydoll, may I have this dance?” He held out his hand to you.
