Neopet review: Gruslen
(No Neopet requests in the inbox right now; send 'em if you have 'em.)
The Gruslen is one of my favorite petpets on the site. Basically a proto Varwolf, it's a Tyrannian petpet that looks the part with its saber-tooth tiger-esq tusks and tiger stripes. It's a super simple design, but there's just the right amount of detail, and the anatomy and proportions make it very cute and appealing. Of course, this is after the redraw; during its release in 2001, it looked like an artist's day off gag:
While not super prominent on the site itself, the Gruslen has been favored enough to get a bunch of different colours.
Favorite Colours:
Faerie: Along with a unique pose, the faerie Gruslen has a very faerie-esq pink-and-purple palette and some nice details, like the ears being curled upwards and the tail having a bit of a swirl to it. Also, just look at how happy it is!
Christmas: While just a basic recolor, the Christmas Gruslen just looks pretty. The peppermint-striped tusks are a really cute concept, and the slightly greenish off-white base makes for a nice neutral to offset the complimentary green and red stripes.
Rainbow: Again, nothing that fancy, but the color palette here is really nice; it's standard rainbow fare, but the stripes have a bit of a wave pattern to them instead of being straight across, the stripes are placed separately across the body instead of being a flat fill, and the darker purple and blue work well against the other, brighter colors.
Least Favorite Colour:
Birthday: Instead of actually being birthday cake like many other birthday pets, the birthday Gruslen is just a regular orange Gruslen but with pink and blue icing slopped over its stripes. Outside of looking boring, the purple and blue really don't go with the orange at all. I will admit the noisemaker/party horn tusks are at least fun, but they're also very hard to read at a glance due to their size.
WIP for something else ive been working on :3
I really like the darigan gruslen so here is a quick fanart!
