Although the hierarchy between them  ( and therefore the visible difference between their existences )  is absolutely clear in the way one blesses and the other kneels, the truth is that Amaterasu has much respect and appreciation for the fox. No, she doesn't look at her as a servant, but as a friend, as a soul whose connection to hers surpasses even the most fanciful human concepts. And that’s why that request was made to Ruyi and could never have been made to anyone else------because only Ruyi would understand what ‘important’ means to her.

Lauren, thankfully, had people who cared about her. Made friends with those who stayed Neutral throughout the war. When Maz allowed her to stay near her Neutral Zone, the woman radioed for RuYi... Her once dearest friend, for help. Upon describing how she was pregnant and needed help adjusting to the life of a civilian, RuYi needed no further explanation.

She shared the small home with Lauren... Helped her cope... Soothed her nightmares and aided her when she was ill. When the woman went into labor, RuYi waited outside for Maz to give the go ahead that she was allowed in. When she entered, her gaze fell upon the exhausted Lauren, holding close the whimpering and whining bundle.

Lauren whispered, brushing away a bit of the thick, ebony patch of hair from his scrunched face. He was perfect... Little birth marks mimicking his Father’s... A Father who Lauren remained nameless to RuYi... A collection of freckles patterned on the bridge of his nose like his Mother... Though everything else—

How sad... This was her wedding and Lauren would have much rather spent it nowhere near the crowd. She was getting sick of all of them, especially her family. Bunch of raging alcoholics if one asked her... So when RuYi came to her and sat down beside the new ‘blushing’ bride, she scoffed.

“Nope.”

Lauren huffed, feeling RuYi’s arms wrap tightly around her and the woman nuzzling cheek to cheek.

“NO I’M STILL M A D!”

She was mad because RuYi easily grabbed something from the top shelf meanwhile she had been struggling for hours.

Lauren was getting married, in approximately... Six months. Or maybe a little less, she finally stopped counting because it was driving her crazy. After constant ‘If he hurts you I’m going to kill him’ from RuYi, the woman had accepted the man as someone she could trust with the sunshine of her life. Lauren was getting married, and RuYi wanted everything to be perfect, which meant she even put on the lemon yellow that she so desperately wanted the bridesmaids to wear. Lavender was a choice, but the bride never liked any of the styles that they came in. But this one... This one was perfect.

Lauren could immediately tell by the scrunch of Ru’s nose that she hated it.
