Scriptwriting Post 15: Red Cups and Sweaty Bodies Everywhere, Hands in the Air Like We Don't Care
I thought that we weren't going to have a Christmas party, mainly because no one brought about gift-exchanging or what food to bring, unlike our previous Christmas celebration. Instead of having the party the day after the last day of class, we decided to have the party on the night of our last day of class. We didn't really have an organized plan, but at least those who volunteered to bring food and drinks did so. I was glad I was able to get Phileo to come, after he and his mother had a fifteen-minute argument over the phone. And he chose his gifts before we went to the party--I wanted to give him something, but I didn't know what, so we went record bar-hopping to see what DVDs he wanted. I tried to be generous but I had a limited budget and part of it was already for snacks. The party was at Lizz's house. Lizz suggested that some meet her at a mall, then take us to her house from there. Ceasar was already at the mall until his mom told him he couldn't come, bummer for him. Yani bought GSM Blue, though that wasn't the thing I was surprised for I thought he and his friends from high school had probably done it lots of times, but I was surprise about myself. I forgot. The legal drinking age is 18... And I'm already 18. When did I grow up? It was a simple gathering, no program whatsoever, though the karaoke was ready for anyone who was brave enough to bare their voices to the world. There was food, and music, and I got to show-off my sound-sensitive Iron Man light-up shirt. "Divisoria, baby." I thought I'd go home by eleven, but considering the party started at nine-thirty instead of the originally-planned eight, I decided to stay the night. I didn't think it was good idea to sleepover at Lizz's as respect to her parents, but she herself insisted that we can, as long as not all of us will stay there. Some went home by eleven. Marvinn thought that Lizz's mother is the housemaid. Douche bag. Yani brought cards for a drinking game. It was crazy. One of the rules of the game was if one person drinks, the ones flanking him or her have to do so as well. Another was we have to speak in pure Filipino and our sentences with "'dre." I ended up having to down a cup of Gran Matador with Tanduay Ice as a chaser, and I was close to throwing up because of how sudden I drank with that much. I got tipsy for an hour or so. Some of them did smoke, as well. Raika and Sheryl? Smoking? That's new. And Jelo smoke and drank simultaneously that not too long after, he threw up in the street. Even if we didn't look, the retching and the sound of the vomit pelting on the ground were very audible. Curious as I was what it feels like to smoke, I threatened myself of the consequences if I tried. Lung diseases, cancer, stuff like that. And I feared I was close to a heart attack so I strayed from the cigarettes but went on with the drinks. The party made me reflect how much my high school sucked. We never really get to do much, being a Christian school and whatnot. Freedom of expression wasn't really a thing. Eye contacts should be transparent. The horrible rule with the boys' haircut; coloring the hair was forbidden as well. And majority of my high school batchmates try so hard to be so cool, but they are nothing compared to my batchmates now. What's funny, though, is that Lizz worried where each one of us would sleep, and we, with the exception of Jelo, stayed up until the sun broke out. Lizz's mom started cooking breakfast, reheating leftovers and preparing coffee before we were able to step inside the house and start doing so before she gets up. Lizz's dad was very kind as well. Lizz suggested for a New Year's party. "So we can cook your hotdogs... that you left over from last year." That would be cool. I learned a lot of secrets from the group of ten or so that stayed, and secrets have to remain secrets, but I loved the rush of finding out who did what. And I learned something about myself as well. I'm a social drinker.
