Hi Franchesca, I was watching your latest decoded about Rachel Dolazol, and you said that races had no real biological difference, but we have different physical facial features and some races are more susceptible to some diseases than others so..? And also some trans people haven't always identified as their preferred gender, some have identity changes when they're a lot older PS I really liked the episode, I don't want this message to sound rude or accusatory, I'm just curious!
Poor choice of words on my part. Yes our features and skin tone are passed down but genetically one race of people isn’t different from another. My point was only to debunk people who claim “we’re all human” because that doesn’t change how we’re treated based on our skin color.
In a 2 minute video it’s tough to break down the complexities of gender for a millennial short attention spam audience, so my explanation of trans people wasn’t as nuanced as it could’ve been. My goal was to say that trans people don’t chose to be trans in the way that Rachel Dolezal choose to identify as black.
Of course gender isn’t so black and white, there are gender fluid people and non-binary people so everyone’s experience is different. Hopefully my oversimplification hasn’t offended anyone but as a cis person I’m always willing to be checked when I get it wrong. No need to apologize, I appreciate the feedback
