Spending time with Jack rates high on my favorite memories from my times in China, and I have some pretty spectacular memories! As he was playing with one of our volunteers he burst out with "I like you!" Believe me, Jack, the feeling is mutual! Jack is 7 years old and has low vision. He speaks English well due to having been in an English speaking group foster home. As he eagerly explores the room his little phrase is, "This is what?" Jack likes bedtime stories about dinosaurs. Danica is a shy 10 year old girl. When we met her in April, she took her time warming up to us - but can blame her? We're total strangers who don't speak her language! Once she felt comfortable we were able to learn a lot about her! We learned that she cherishes her friendships and is very considerate and caring towards her friends. She enjoys being active and playing outside. She also likes painting and drawing. She told us her favorite color is yellow in English! Danica has ADHD, which she takes medication for. Little Miss Nadia likes to sing and do motions to songs. She also likes to splash in water and play with little buckets. Nadia is 2 years old and has Down syndrome. She crawls and walks independently. She feeds herself finger foods and can stack little stacking cups in the correct order. She is learning to feed herself using a spoon. Hector is one of those little boys whose pictures just make me smile. Partly because he is just so cute, but also that impish little expression gets me every time. I dare you to look and not smile! Hector is 2 years old and is diagnosed with possible mild cerebral palsy and esotropia. He is sitting by himself and can pull to a stand. We have a video to share with interested families. He really looks forward to meal time and gets upset if his caregivers feed the other children first. His file describes him as a "foodie" which, again, makes me smile. Talk about a kid who lights up the room! Not only did 9 year old Desi put a smile on everyone's face, but also tears in our eyes as we were laughing so hard along with his silliness! Desi is so much fun! He was amazing at answering all of our questions - and keeping us fully entertained while at it. You need someone who can do a good robot/computer voice? Desi is your man! Need someone who can do a good chicken impression? Desi will be there for you giving it 100%! His foster mother told us that he is also very sweet and considerate. Desi has no medical needs. This kiddo would bring so much happiness and joy to a family. Could he be your son? Four year old Austin is such an adorable little guy - sweet dimples and ears that stick out just slightly! He is a little shy but so very polite, making sure to always say thank you. Austin loves playing with Transformers, drawing, and reading picture books. His foster mom told us that he is very popular among his classmates, most likely due to his mild, sweet temperament. Austin has amblyopia in his right eye and some mild delays. Could he be your son? Sweet little Gloria! This precious little girl is 3 years old and makes you work to get a smile! But it is worth the effort it takes and when you get her to giggle it feels like the sun just burst through the clouds! Gloria has a skin condition called ichthyosis and some developmental delays. We have met her several times so have lots of information to share with interested families. She is a curious, observant little girl who showed great concern for another little one who was crying in the same room. She tried to offer comfort to him by sharing her Gerber puffs. Lee is a quiet, observant little 6 year old boy. When we met him, we asked him to draw a circle which he did, but then he made it into a flower. He was only five then, but he was very focused on drawing and very good at it! He counts to 50 with help and can write numbers 1-10. He enjoys school and tries very hard to please his teachers. Lee has a speech delay, and his file reports developmental delay. He speaks in simple sentences. He is shy and is much more talkative around other children than he is with adults.
