the smell of the ocean hits her when the door opens, and then the far off crashing of waves. the door shuts but the intrusion was enough to wake her up.
she can hear the lock being latched again, the three step thud of boots being taken off. eris knows she doesn’t have to worry, it’s just him. her him. her guy, her man. it makes her giddy, enough so that a laugh bubbles up out of her like she’s just a school girl with a crush.
she shifts enough in bed to prop herself up on an arms gathering worth of blanket, one eye open to see the hall bathroom light on. knowing him, he doesn’t want to bother her by using the bathroom attached to her room in the event she was asleep. (or was it finally their room?)
the light turns back off and after another second her doors pushed open. his eyebrows twitch upwards when he realizes she’s awake, stubborn thing.
“you waitin’ up for me?” pope asks as he shrugs off his dark blue hoodie, dropping it on the ottoman at the end of the bed.
“mmmmaybe…” eris stretches out the word along with her body in an attempt to play up that she was definitely awake. it doesn’t work on him, he can see the lines of pressed blankets on her cheek and chest.
“shouldn’t do that,” he shakes his head as he speaks, taking off his shirt and undoing the belt to his jeans. “pretty girl like you needs her beauty sleep.”
her cheeks burn despite how many times he’s said that to her in the quiet fits of wanting to push it to be up with him longer. she huffs for good measure as she rolls over in bed, away from him.
“whatever,” she grumbles into her pillow, blankets almost entirely obscuring her. it doesn’t deter him from sighing out the heavy weight in his chest before sinking into the mattress, untucking the blanket just enough to slide in behind her.
“good night, bunny.”
“g’night, andy.”
