                    IT’S   BEEN   A   WHILE   since   she’s   cooked.   weird.   after   being   responsible   for   the   feeding   and   care   of   everyone   ,   not   cooking   feels   . . .   wrong.   like   she’s   letting   them   down   somehow.   she   knows   they’re   all   eating.   it’s   just   that   in   the   places   they   visit   ,   most   people   refuse   to   let   them   cook   now.   “   can   you   smell   that?   ”   there’s   an   unmistakable   note   of   pride   in   her   voice.

LIN HUFFED, HER ARMS CROSSED DEFIANTLY OVER HER CHEST TO THE EFFECT of her looking far younger than she truly was. Parents sometimes had that effect on their children, making them forget their age and wisdom and reducing themselves to nothing more than pouty kids. Though, of course, Lin would never admit to doing anything so silly as pouting. Even if she felt she had good reason to do so. 

“Oh, now you want five minutes,” she huffed again, glaring despite knowing her mother couldn’t see it but sure she could feel the tremors of her anger all the same. “You’ve had my entire life, mom, why all of a sudden?” 

Was this what she wanted? Her mother finally talking to her, telling her things she never had before? Yes. Was she going to make it easy on her mother to do so? Absolutely not.

    “HEY TOPH! You’re not in the middle of a class, right?!” Unexpected visit from Sokka, who strolls right in to the earth bending school with a grin plastered across his face. Taking advantage of the moment of free time, he figures why not visit and really check the place out for himself? Not that he can...do much in terms of the whole bending thing, but he could make pretty good moral support!

       she isn’t even sure how she did it. while kya is familiar with the act of blood bending , she’s never once considered it a reliable or morally sound practice. her mother made it illegal , rightfully so , and by that logic toph has every right to have her arrested. the young water bender clings tightly to her aunt , trembling after what happened.  ’  i didn’t mean to — he was following me all the way to my home and i got scared. i haven’t told my parents , they don’t know i snuck out.  ‘  she speaks softly , unsure if her own words are coherent. she pulls away just enough to see her aunt’s face.  ‘  am i an awful person ? should i be in prison ?  ‘

     he’s a light sleeper.   zuko always has to be.   it’s the survival instincts,   ready to jump in case anyone should choose to attack at night.   so when he hears the pounding of footsteps reverberate on the floor,   his body instantly snaps up.   the others of the gang are further away,   not able to feel the vibrations.   zuko’s eyes make out who it is:   toph,   running in another direction.   he silently follows her,   not wanting to frighten the girl in any way.   he had done that before,   and doesn’t want to repeat it.   maybe she can see him following through her feet ?

     through the woods the fire bender travels,   watching toph slump against a rock in a little ball.   he’s caught up to her,   though wary   ;   does she know he’s here ?   she has to.   he sits next to her without making a sound,   his arm going around her as to give a slight embrace.   she’s clearly not okay,   so he cuts right to the chase.   ❛   . . .   do you wanna talk about it ?   ❜
