I don’t see Yasuo as gay just my personal preference on the character but the way @yasuo-the-unforgiven is pretty cool but characters shouldn’t be known for their sexuality but for their story.
//...Alright. I think you’re missing the point here, my friend. I’ll give you the benefit of doubt and assume you meant ‘see’ as a way to refer to your preference. No harm done.
I want you to be aware, however there is a huge gap between seeing and preferring.
What upsets me has nothing to do with preference. I will never question anyone’s preference. Ever. I prefer to portray him attracted towards men. That is a preference. But if you ask me if I can see him as <insert orientation here>, I will never say I can’t. Unless canonically proven.
When you say you ‘see’ you mean to perceive as - and when it comes to perception, it means you are using of some sort of pattern/mannerism/trait the character displays to draw your conclusions. And what is it people use to perceive others as gay, straight or anywhere in between? Stereotype.
That is what gets me so upset. You get me now? It’s not the fact you or anyone else prefers him as... whatever orientation. It’s the fact the option ‘gay’ is ruled out from the get go simply because his pattern of behavior doesnt correspond to that of a stereotypically gay man.
And that is exactly the same reason as for why someone like me has to remain forever frustrated and feeling out of place while every single time he finds a character he identifies himself with, the same character is stripped from his hands or looked at as ‘awkward’ by the fandom for not following what people call ‘the norm’ - be it a ship, an orientation or both.
And you are right, characters should never be known for their sexuality (as I have multiple times stressed out I will never want to be known as ‘the gay yasuo blog’), but if that were followed as closely as people preach, I am sure no one would ever make fuss when a few characters are revealed as any orientation other than straight.
