FROM ART: Edward Hopper “Morning sun”, 1952 — Gucci “Overture of something that never ended”, Episode 1 “At home” directed by @gus_van_sant and @alessandro_michele , Fall 2021 Hopper’s distinctive feature lies in the ability to depict loneliness and to do it regardless subject of the painting, whether is a human being, nature or a urban landscape. Hopper manages to set a moment. The exceptionality lies in the naturalness with which certain scenarios are painted: not using gloomy colors, not drawing monstrous creatures or apocalyptic visions...he simply represent reality and its banality. And it’s precisely this that disturb us so deeply. In Hopper’s paintings something is always going to happen, even when nothing happens. As in Carver story, where the unspoken amplifies everyday life, Hopper’s characters scream in silence as if they have the voice to do so. “Morning sun” is the exaltation of a static solitude, of time repeating itself day after day invading rooms and existences. Maybe it’s only me. But I really got those feelings from “At home” episode.
