I read this book a little while ago, but my god. This is like a fever dream. Half the time it was so sweet, with the little love story, ya know? The other half is just a humongous WTF moment. I’ll explain what I mean a little later. But, holy crap.
When the opening line of the book is literally, “Here is a boy, drowning.” What in the actual frick-frack am I supposed to do with this type of information?! Well, at least now I know that this book is going to rip my heart out. Thanks a lot, Patrick Ness.
I’m confused, heartbroken, and on top of all of the confusion and sadness, Patrick Ness decides to not even give a sequel. The audacity.
If this book intrigues you, I completely suggest that you read it blind. The story is really good, the characters are just charming as they are sassy, the book was really good, and I grew attached to the characters.
Spoiler Warning: Hoody is about to go on a tangent about how much she loves and hates this book. If you would like to read the book blind, skip over this part of the post and she’ll reconnect with you during the conclusion.
No, no, nope, not today, I rebuke you Satan. Before I start ranting about this book, I’m gonna say one thing: TOMÁS IS A WONDERFUL BEAN AND HE DESERVES TO BE PROTECTED!
Now, back to the regularly scheduled programming.
This book racked my brain so much that I couldn’t tell if what I was reading was real…
My biggest question is the end of this book.
WHAT IN WHATEVER IS HELD DEAR TO ME, IS THIS ENDING. Seth puts himself into a coffin, that he knows practically nothing about, and then has his friends, who not even 100 pages ago, told Seth how they died. The saddest thing to hear Tomás talk about his own death.
OH, AND THEN, OF COURSE, EVERYTHING THAT WAS HAPPENING IN THIS POST APOCALYPTIC WORLD WAS THE REAL WORLD WHERE, WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED IT, IN THE REAL WORLD HIS BROTHER IS DEAD.
BUT THEN, DEAR READER I AM FAR FROM DONE. THE ENTIRE LIFE THAT HE HAD BEEN LIVING IN WAS A GOD-FREAKING SIMULATION, BECAUSE, WHY NOT.
I love it, I hate it, it’s amazing, and if anyone even tries touching Tomás, I will bite you...
It was great, as I've said before if you want to feel what I felt, read it blind, it's a great book and now Patrick Ness is on my immediate buy list.
