This is how it begins.
I’m sure that most of you have noticed that the world is not what it was. It has changed drastically in such a short time. Our country is divided along almost every line that can be conceived of. Hate mistrust and fear are now a regular part of our daily lives. It is simply not sustainable.
Regardless of what your leanings may be, whether politically, spiritually, by tax bracket, region, history, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, personal view, etc, I’m sure you can understand the need to be kept apprised of current events. The world is changing at an exponential pace, and I have no doubt that nearly all of you are struggling to keep up. Gone are the days where we can continue our lives and trust the world will run itself, to do so is to risk being trampled by the crisis flavor of the day. The real trick lies in the fact that nearly all sources for news have become echo chambers. Because of this, it is virtually impossible to engage in critical thinking. What little unbiased news can be found is often censored or downright suppressed.
Over the last several years, I have become aware of a number of sources that communicate current events in a decentralized manner. I am fascinated with their methods, using decentralized comms to avoid censorship as well as more conventional methods to communicate. They invite anyone to give them tips about what is happening in the world. Sometimes through email, webpage, phone call, or most notably even high frequency radio using digital modes. These parties use the tips to research and corroborate information before reformatting it into situation reports or SITREPS. It is a fascinating and effective way to solve a problem we are all affected by. Unfortunately, I am repulsed by their inability to communicate without voicing extremist views. When I say extremist, I mean this in a very broad sense. I don’t label them as such just because their views differ from my own, often they do not. I called them extremist because they try to influence the opinions of their audience. To my way of thinking that rather negates the whole point. I feel that if one is going to engage in journalistic pursuits, they should hold themselves to a basic level of journalistic integrity.
What I am proposing is attempting to re-create their formats, but in the most non-bias terms I can personally manage. My time, reach, and resources are very limited but I have hope that these will grow through practice, just as I have observed it to be true with others who pursue the same ends.
