Gujarat Day

Its origin dates back to the Stone Age settlement followed by Indus Valley Civilization. In 1956, a movement called Mahagujarat Andolan was initiated for creating the state of Gujarat. The term Mahagujarat was used since they needed to bring the mainland of Gujarat as well as its surrounding regions of Saurashtra and Kutch in their vicinity.

The Mahagujarat movement was held a year later after the nation became independent. The purpose of the meeting was to create a state on linguistic lines to include all Gujarati speaking individuals. This resulted in the formation of the state of Gujarat on May 1 1960, from the erstwhile state of Bombay. This is the motivation behind why Maharashtra and Gujarat were isolated on the premise dialects in the wake of defining limits under The State Reorganization Act 1956.
